Arsenal badgeArsenal have been drawn against Fenerbahce in the Champions League play-off.

We managed to avoid the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Real Sociedad, AC Milan, Zenit and Schalke, which is pleasing to hear.

On paper, it looks a tricky fixture for Arsene Wenger’s side, but any Arsenal fan out there who may be a little concerned with the draw should take comfort in the fact that we have never lost to the Turkish outfit.

We have come up against them only four times. The first two meetings came in 1979 in the first round of the European Cup Winners Cup which Arsenal drew 0-0 away and picked up a 2-0 win at home. The next two contests was during the 2008/09 Champions League season. Arsenal came out of Istanbul with an impressive 5-2 victory but only managed a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture.

But the Istanbul club pose a threat with a new look team and have some faces in their line-up which played in the Premier League. Joseph Yobo, Dirk Kuyt and Raul Meireles all now represent Fenerbahce and Arsenal will need to be on top of their game against the SuperLig runners-up if they want to progress into the Champions League Group Stages.

The Gunners will take on Fenerbahce on either the 20th or 21st of August, with the return leg at The Emirates a week later.

We have never lost to a Turkish outfit ? what happen last week-end then ?

We are a joke at the moment, I would rather lose and not qualify, maybe then the manager and the board might realise we are not good enough and ” Spend some F**king Money”

“we are a joke at the moment” I do not seem to understand who is we there. Maybe its you and your family. It is not the club’s problem that you are psychologically challenged. The writer is referring to a competitive match and you make reference to a friendly match where players played two days in a raw. Arsenal is way better off without your kind.

i think the game wil not be easy for arenal at all but with the record at hand i think we are the better side but Arsen wengar should please buy us top striker like luis suarez .up gunners

I have a funny feeling Arsenal will crash out! Fenerb have got experienced campaigners in Kuyt, Meireles, Sow… It showed last week against Galatasaray! Arsenal has Akpom to call upon if we need a striker from the bench!!! That will serve Arsene Wenger right…I am afraid, the season will have ended before it really gets started…Wenger casse toi!!

So the season is all over before it’s started? Christ, I’ve never known such pathetic pessimism.

    • tinalex says:

Whatever you are smoking I do not know. Kuyt is a Liverpool reject who was bout for one million Euro while Meireles had some unsuccessful stints at both Liverpool and Chelsea. The writer of the article also makes reference to Yobo, who is an Everton reject. Both players are in their 30s so its fair to say they are on a downward spiral. Player for player, Arsenal is far much stronger than Fenerbahce but of course even underdogs have a chance to make an upset. This is true for Fenerbahce. They came second to a club where an Arsenal reject is a regular, so that should tell you the quality of the League.

Would have rather drawn milan or Zenit! We will not take fenerbahce seriously enough and I hate to say it but we may not go through. Arsene needs to pull his finger out.

    • Michael Staley says:

Of course we’ll take Fenerbahce seriously. This is the Champion’s League, for heaven’s sake.

  • Eddy from TZ says:

May be Arsene Wenger have to buy two profetional players among of them shd be Suarez + Fellain from Evarton

  • same old arsenal says:

    It could have been worse.
Still a bit tricky but we should do enough to get through.

  • Eddy from TZ says:

That team which will play angaist Arsenal is not simple as such, there4 Arsenal players have to play as a team in order to pass that play off

  • clement says:

we have some foolish people like tinalex , michael stanley n the likes in this world who are the main reason why arsene doesn’t sign quality players.the truth is bitter but it must be told,we will find it difficult before we make it to the champions league.we played turkey outfit;galatasaray with all the seriousness as the one used to play the premier league.didn’t u read it from flop wenger and his useless players.arsenal fans think arsenal must not qualify to the champions league so the mediocre coach and the moneysucking boardmembers will sign top quality players.if we have a lot of your kind in arsenal, then arsenal will be relagated.wenger out!!mediocre players out!!useless boardmembers out!!!the lot out!!
