Two out of three will suffice for former Gunner

Arsene WengerArsene Wenger has been reportedly tracking down an array of experienced players to add to his existing squad this summer.

The three particular names that have been constantly linked with The Gunners are Wayne Rooney, Marouane Fellaini and Gonzalo Higuain, with the latter ‘close’ to sealing a £22 million move to The Emirates according to his brother and agent.

While many fans would love to see Wenger capture this trio, Stewart Robson pointed out that only two would be worth signing.

Quoted on talkSPORT.com, Robson said:

‘Wayne Rooney I think, is slightly on the wane, he’s lost a yard of pace.

‘Would he be a good player for Arsenal? Would he take them to the next level? I think he would improve them, I’m just not sure he’s the player Arsenal need to go on to become champions of Europe or champions of the Premier League.’

Robson went on to say that the Gunners’ midfield needs more steel, and encouraged Wenger to do what it takes to get Fellaini playing for the club next season.

‘Arsenal need a real strong backbone in that midfield. I would go and get Fellaini if he’s available, I’ve seen him play many different roles for Everton. I’ve seen him come to the Emirates before and play a defensive role and he’s been the outstanding player on the field. I’ve seen him go and play as an attacking midfielder and go and show good strength and win balls in the air.

‘He does things simply on the ball. He’s not going to be an expansive passer but Arsenal have got those expansive players, they need to now get a balance between the creative side and the more destructive side, the more dynamic side of the game, you can’t have one without the other.’

Personally, I would love to see Higuain, Rooney and Fellaini join. We have the finances to do this if but Wenger and the board are willing to splash the cash.

However, if we can only get our hands on two of the three, then I would probably have to agree with Robson on this one.

Rooney would improve our squad but he’s not the player he once was.

On the other hand, Higuain, in my opinion, would fit the bill at Arsenal and would score many goals if he was to join us, and I don’t see any reason why we can’t sign him up.

While Fellaini, for £23 million, would be a bargain. He has Premier League experience and like Robson said, the Belgian can play in many positions and would certainly add more balance to our midfield.

Like I said, if we can seal all three of these deals then great. But if were were to miss out on one then Rooney would be the obvious choice.

I don’t want Rooney, no way near as good as he was and his wages would also be stupid, over rated in my eyes. Bring on the other two plus a GK, RB an CB. Get rid of the deadwood ASAP!!!!

For me as well, i’ll like to see the three players in our squad next season but if we’re unable to capture the 3 but 2 then i’ll prefare Higuane and Fellaini…. with this two we’ll definitely go places next season by God’s grace………

This is definately right, if not all but 2 is ok including Julio ceaser, i mean Higuain and Felainin. Let’s forget about rooney, although he is good but his wage is far too much and we can still do without him. Another thing is solidifying the defence.

Our defence line need a lot of ammendment because in the last season we lost most of our game as a result of silly mistakes from the defence line, thanks to martesacker and kolcieny that stay put at the center defence towards the end of last season,

it would have been another story now so there is need for us to get better sub for them so as to prepare for the worst that might come. Last season we attack very well but we conceeded too many goals so Arsene Wenger should do something about this.

New Castle once got a blessing many seasons ago, when Allan Shearer was given the top job and they got relegated. Now he reserves his comments, because he knows the gravity of being a manager at a top team. The problem with old players, the self annointed legends of a team, they think they know everything about the club, about football and what ought to be done to take the club ‘to the next level’. That surely is what Stewart Robson and Ian Wright think. But one should ask, why not become managers themselves? You saw where Tonny Adams’ coaching career took him, and yet he was more legend at Arsenal that Robson and Wright. I say, we leave the manager to sort his mess, if he can’t then we can critisize him. Robson should know the world has changed, so has football. He does not know much, although he thinks he knows. Pitty, pitty!
