‘I know nothing about Arsenal’

The Gunners have been linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer, and with Vito Mannone sold to Sunderland, the need for a new shot-stopper at The Emirates has become greater.

The likes of Victor Valdes, Julio Cesar, Pepe Reine, Rene Adler and Samir Begovic have all, reportedly, appeared on Arsene Wenger’s radar as the Frenchman looks to bolster his squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Wojciech Szczesny remains Arsenal’s number one for the time being, with Lukasz Fabianski waiting in the wings. However, many believe the club need to bring in an experienced shot-stopper to help develop, mainly, the brash Szczesny.

But nothing has yet to happen on this front.

And it looks like a name we won’t be seeing at The Emirates this season is Lazio’s Federico Marchetti.

The 30-year-old was once linked with a move to Arsenal when he was on Cagliari’s books.

But when asked about a potential switch to Arsenal this summer, the Italian said:

‘I know nothing about Arsenal.

‘I’m having a holiday and only thinking about relaxing. And then there is the president, who knows what to do.’

Since his switch to Lazio in 2011, Marchetti has established himself as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in Italy.

He has made a total of 85 appearances in all competitions for the Biancocelesti thus far and bags a wealth of experience having played for eight different clubs before joining Lazio.
