Should Arsenal consider selling this man?

GervinhoWhen Gervinho signed for Arsenal in 2011, his arrival was greeted with good expectations for the future and how he would grow as a player and add to a growing team.

But of late, the winger has been nothing more than a fringe player at Arsenal. As a result, the Ivorian has been left with no choice but to leave the club in order to gain more first-team football which he has been unable to get under Arsene Wenger, especially last season. He only played a full 90 minutes game three times last season, scoring only five times.

Despite his poor showing this season, a number of clubs have shown interest in the 26-year-old, with Marseille admitting theirs in the Ivory Coast international.

Gervinho told Le Patriote:

‘If I really want to leave Arsenal, I’m sure there would be a lot of interest.

‘Marseille is one of the leading French clubs and I have a good relationship with some people there.

‘I cannot say yes or no but it is always flattering for a player to know that there are a lot of clubs showing interest in him.

‘It is true that I had little playing time at Arsenal after the Afcon [Africa Cup of Nations] but it was the choice of the coach, Arsene Wenger.

‘Now we are on holidays, I’ll take some rest for a while and then come back to seriously think of my future and what to do next.

‘We still have three weeks to the new season; I think there is enough time to think of my future.’

But should we let the forward go?

I for one wouldn’t lose sleep if he were to leave.

Gervinho showed flashes of brilliance in the two years he’s been at The Emirates, but not enough to ensure a regular starting role.

Wenger clearly doesn’t see him in his future plans so we might as well sell him, free up some space in the wage budget and use the funds elsewhere. It will be a shame to see him leave, but having failed to live up to expectations we would be better off cutting our losses.

Great dribbler of the ball but doesn’t know what to do when he has beaten the last man.
If we can get 12m for him then he can pack his bags. Shame , as he does have good ability

Not sure what happens at Arsenal- these players come to us with fearsome reputations- then turn into jokes – Gervinho- Arshavin- chamakh- Eduardo- to name a few- they just seem to lose confidence with us- u can see it with the 3 we bought last season – even cazorlas form dipped, it was like he was scared to have the ball – podolskis unsettled and Giroud for me had a average season.

Wenger is to blame for players lack of form or development, due to his cold stand offish management style. Wenger has his favourites within his squads which is fine, but if your not one of the favourites, you hardly get a chance to play, unless theres an injury to a favourite player. Wenger should rotate and give fringe players more playing time in the PL; as that is the only way to enable fringe players to gain confidence and experience. The likes of Coquelene Gervinho and Jenkinson, should be played much more as should Arshavin before he left. Mix and blend is a sign of a good manager but for me Wenger isolates certain players, who are not his favourites and at the same time, he over plays his favourites.
