Rooney? Higuain? Jovetic? This is the striker Arsenal should attempt to sign

|

Jackson MartinezForget about seeing Gonzalo Higuain, Stevan Jovetic or Wayne Rooney arriving at Arsenal this summer. The first two names are more likely to join Juventus than us, while although Arsene Wenger hinted at a shock move for Rooney recently, I can only see the England international joining PSG, who are prepared to offer him mega bucks.

Edinson Cavani will probably join City, while Radamel Falcao will be playing his football in France for fat-cats Monaco next season.

So with Wenger believed to be on the lookout for a new striker? Who is available? And, more importantly, who is a realistic forward we can actually sign this summer.

Although Yaya Sanogo is on his way to The Emirates on a Bosman, the Frenchman is not exactly a experienced, neither is he a proven goal-scorer.

So who should we turn our attention too? Well I think a realistic target is Jackson Martinez?

Who the hell is Martinez you ask?

Well he is a 26-year-old, Colombian international who currently plays for Porto.

He is a forward described by English journalist Tim Vickery as ‘an out-and-out goal-scorer, who can finish with both feet’, and a player, in my opinion, Arsene Wenger should really have a look at this summer.

The former Chiapas player possesses great technical ability, is powerful on the ball, and a quality finisher. He reminds me a lot of Falcao, if not better.

Martinez had an outstanding season with Porto this season, finding the net 29 times in 28 appearances in all competitions, and it is thought Spurs are keen on the Colombian and have tabled a £25 million bid, according to reports in Portugal.

Although he is contracted to Porto until 2016, it is understood Martinez has a £35 million release clause in his existing deal. Ok, £35 million is a lot of money to spend on a player, but Martinez could well be the man to fire us to silverware next season and will be a good investment in years to come.

I believe we should turn out attentions to the Porto striker as the other names mentioned above don’t seem likely to ensue. This may well be the case for this potential move but the fact is we could afford to buy Martinez and offer him a better wage package that he is currently receiving at the Portuguese club.

When i first saw the picture, i saw the shirt and thought ‘NOT AROUNA KONE!’ But glad it was martinez.

i think he’ll be great for arsenal and im disappointed hes not linked with us much. Im sure he’ll cost less than 35mill, but if he is, then go buy higuain, or something.
