‘He’s what Arsenal need’

Gonzalo HiguainLa Liga football pundit Terry Gibson believes Gonzalo Higuain would be a very good acquisition for Arsenal and can’t believe Real Madrid are willing to sell him.

The 25-year-old has been told by the Real Madrid hierarchy that he can leave the club this summer and has reportedly agreed terms with Arsenal ahead of a proposed £22 million move.

And Gibson insists if The Gunners can land the Argentine forward for around the reported £22 million sum, it would be regarded as a coup.

He told talkSPORT’s Sports Bar last night:

‘Arsenal are getting a very good player. I’m amazed Real Madrid are considering selling him.

‘He’s 25 years old, so he’s only going to get better. He’s been a great player for Real Madrid. Sometimes clubs and supporters get bored with the same strikers. I don’t see any reason why Higuain would leave. If Arsenal could get him for under £20million then that’s a steal.

‘He’s perfectly suited for the Premier League. He’s got a good physique, is a really tidy all-round footballer and a great finisher. He’ll settle in the Premier League well with his style of play. He’s not a Lionel Messi or a Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s more of a Radamel Falcao, just an out-and-out number nine.

‘He’s what Arsenal need. They have a lot of players who can keep and move the ball but they need a focal point up front and he can provide that.’

I too can’t believe Real are willing to sell Higuain – a player who has been very consistent for them over the past seven years and has not even entered his prime yet!

Reports claim he’s agreed a four-year deal with us worth between worth £130-150k-a-week – depending on what source you believe – and we will be forking out around £22 million for him.

Now to me, £22 million for a 25-year-old, experienced striker would be seen as an astute signing. We need someone to come in and bang in goals week in, week out.

Higuain has great composure in front of goal and the physical stature to succeed in the Premier League. And I firmly believe, with the likes of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere providing him service, the Argentine could take us to the next level.

Hopefully this deal is sealed and we continue our spending spree in the upcoming weeks.
