Arsenal are ready to battle Liverpool for the signature of £12 million-rated centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
Arsene Wenger was tracking the Greece international two years ago and it now appears the Frenchman is now considering a move for the 21-year-old, according to The Sun.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of centre-back already this summer, most notably Swansea’s Ashley Williams.
But it seems Wenger is taking precautionary measures in the defensive department this summer just in case Laurent Koscielny leaves for either Bayern Munich or Barcelona who are both interested in the France international, according to his agent.
Papadopoulos, who currently plays for Schalke, has suddenly appeared on Wenger’s radar. And with only one-year left on his existing contract and the possibility of playing under Wenger, Papadopoulos may consider a switch to The Emirates.
However, Arsenal will have to offer Schalke a deal the German club cannot refuse to turn down in order to get the versatile defender.
With Sebastien Squillaci gone and Johan Djourou also set to depart, with Hamburg interested, The Gunners could do with another centre-back coming in and adding squad depth and quality to the side. And although he is still young, Papadopoulos would certainly do that.

how about offering schalke, djourou plus anyone of bendtner, park or chamakh. that seems like a very good deal for a 21 year old in the last year of his contract.
