Monaco eye up Arsenal defender

|

Bacary SagnaMonaco have entered the race to sign Bacary Sagna this summer, according to The Daily Express.

The 30-year-old’s future at Arsenal looks uncertain after the Frenchman rejected a one-year extension offered to him and with his current contract set to expire in at the end of next season’s campaign, Arsene Wenger may well be prepared to cash in on the right-back in the summer.

Ligue 1 leaders PSG are reportedly preparing to launch a bid for Sagna in the summer but Monaco are also considering a move for the former Auxerre man.

Monaco are on the verge of being promoted from Ligue 2 this season, and under Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev could well reinforce their ranks by embarking on a hefty summer spending spree.

Sagna has made 21 Premier League stars this season and is still regarded by Wenger and many of the Arsenal faithful as the club’s best right-back. However, Carl Jenkinson has proven this season that he is more than capable of filling Sagna’s boots, should Wenger decide to sell Sagna in the summer.
