Heitz confirms Gunners interested in Austrian defender

|

Aleksandar DragovicArsenal are interested in Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic, according to Metro.

The Gunners have been linked with the 22-year-old in the past and it is understtod that club scouts recently watched him in both legs of Basel’s Europa League games against Spurs.

Arsene Wenger looks likely to spend in order to reinforce his back-line with Thomas Vermaelen’s future in doubt and Johan Djourou set to depart the Emirates in the summer. And it seems the Frenchman has set his sights on the Austrian centre-back.

However, Arsenal will face stiff competition for Dragovic’s signature with clubs from Germany, Russia and Italy all looking at him, according to Basel sporting director Georg Heitz.

When asked when Arsenal were keen on the Austria international, Heitz replied:

‘I know there is interest especially from England.

‘There’s also interest from Germany, Russia and Italy – but no deal has been reached.’

Metro suggests Dortmund, Anzhi and AC Milan are the clubs from around Europe monitoring Dragovic, having all been linked with him in the past, and also claim Arsenal are willing to spend £6 million to land Dragovic at the end of the season.

Known for his power, positional awareness, reading of the game and excellent passing range, Dragovic would be, in my opinion, an astute signing this summer. Hopefully we win the race for his signature.

Why not spend big and sign a world-class center-half like mats hummels and adil rami to make a perfect back line capable of contending any top european slot instead experimenting with average defenders like dragovic

So he didn’t confirm arsenal interest at all, he said there was interest from England, funny how stories get twisted

World class centre back Adil Rami? For what? He played around 40-50 games for Valencia. Must be world class indeed.

Arsenal need to sign atleast 3-4 players at the end of this current season to biff up their squad ahead of next season.
