Arsenal target wants Ajax stay

|

Isaac CuencaArsenal target Isaac Cuenca wants to spend another season at Ajax.

The Gunners were linked with a move for the young Spaniard last summer before he joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

The 22-year-old hasn’t had the greatest of times in Amsterdam though, making just five appearances in all competitions for the Dutch club thus far due to injury problems.

But the forward is keen to give it another shot and remain at the Eredivisie outfit next year.

Cuenca reportedly told Dutch publication De Telegraaf:

‘I hope to be able to stay for another year at Ajax – and Barcelona know this too. Because of injury I have not been able to play much, but next season could be important.’

This may come as a blow to Arsene Wenger as he was eyeing up Cuenca last year – well, so reports suggest. However, the Spaniard may not be on the Frenchman’s wish list this summer, despite the need to strengthen his forward line.

Cuenca certainly has ability and if Wenger was looking to sign the Barcelona winger at the end of the season then it seems he will have to either wait another year (if of course Ajax want him) or look elsewhere.
