Are there more bullets left in this old Gun?

Tomas RosickyThis season, uncertainty has surrounded Tomas Rosicky’s Arsenal future.

The 32-year-old has not featured as much as he would have liked this season for us (making just six starts in all competitions), this mainly down to persistent injuries which has led to the Czech midfielder dropping down the pecking order behind the likes of Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla.

As a result of his lack of opportunities this season, Rosicky was quoted in the Metro last month expressing his desire to play more regular football whether this be at Arsenal or another club next season.

However, with Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby both sidelined, Rosicky has been thrown a bone by Arsene Wenger, starting in our last two Premier League games. And, in my opinion, Tomas has shown why he is still an invaluable asset to the side.

His technical ability, work-rate and movement off the ball is second to none and is a constant threat when approaching the opponents goal area. Yesterday against West Brom at The Hawthorns, he showed why he deserves more chances in the starting line-up, bagging a brace and dictating the game throughout (or at least until he was replaced in the 81st minute). Similar performances like these will no doubt keep him in the starting line-up and give Wenger a very good headache (if that’s possible?).

Wenger wants Rosicky to end his career at Arsenal and I believe the player wants to play for our club for as long as he can but is understandably, frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities. However, it is now up to Rosicky to prove to Wenger that he deserves more starting berths and if he can keep away from the treatment table, I believe we will be seeing more of him in the upcoming weeks.

He may be getting on in age alone, but Tomas is arguably one of our brightest midfielders who can turn a game on its head. He needs to stay put and hopefully Wenger can give him what he wants.
