This may not go down well with the fans Wenger

|

Godfrey OboabonaArsenal could be on the verge of making their second signing of 2013 after the club handed trials to Nigeria centre-back Godfrey Oboabona.

According to The Sun, Arsene Wenger invited the 22-year-old for a trial at The Emirates and the Frenchman will now run the rule over the Sunshine Stars defender.

Oboabona played a major role in Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations triumph last month and also expressed his admiration for Arsenal, saying it is a club he wants to play for:

‘Arsenal are my favourite club from childhood. It is the club I want to play for.’

Reports suggest Wenger is keen to strengthen his defensive department ahead of next season and could well make a move for the Nigerian, who could cost as little as £1 million, when the summer transfer window opens in June.

Oboabona is known to be a robust defender who possesses good power and pace, and is also very good in aerial battles. However, he is still very much a raw footballer and unproven in many Arsenal fans’ eyes. So this potential move may not go down well with the Emirates faithful.

for the money why the hell not!!!
Its not really the acquisition of youth thats the problem, its the money he often pays for them that grates. youth is always welcome but lets pay sensible prices and wages…

  • 'Tola says:

Try Him and if he’s good buy its not too harmful to buy such a play with such defensive attributes at 1mil. Give that “NAIJA” boy a trial.

There is many good player amongst African nation that may be good deal for Arsenal, but the problem is these player has to play for their national team every year for a month like Gervinho then we will come back to mean problem SHORT IN DEFENCE but if we buy like Samba it would be great. I don’t say that because he is cheap but we need player to stay with us whole season.

Is Samba not African? This sounds crazy in these straitened times but 1 million in football terms is not really too much and who knows? We might have unearthed another diamond in the rough

Get that boy before its too late,so we don’t end up adding him to list of players we missed like. Maradona,Yaya,Cech,CR7,Bale,Denis Law etc.1m its worth taking a gamble with the guy handle Drogba our nemesis like a kid @ de AFCON

I am more than happy for the club to continue investing in promising players. I mean, we spent a million and got Jenkinson! Plus I am a firm believer that you do not have to spend lots to get ‘super quality’.

But it is certainly not a transfer that will inspire confidence in arsenals ambition. Plus, I am not to keen on african players simply because ACoN! I hate that tournament… Why should we have to lose what could turn out to be a massively important player for a crucial period of our season? It is a ridiculous time to have a tournament! Smack bam in the middle of the european league season.

Of course, it could be nothing, and arsenal Arsenal invite players to trial with them all the time Imagine, however it shows that despite talk of spending big this summer and having money available… I think the suspicion is that it will be business as usual.

The african nations cup will now be taking place in the summer. So i say buy him. I have seen him play, quick, strong, ruthless like kozer (koscielny)
