For years, Arsenal has been the dominant force in north London, attracting all the high-profile talent, with players at the time only having one top club to pick from in the northern part of the capital.
But with Tottenham’s recent up rise over the last few seasons that luxury has slowly faded away, as the battle between the two fierce rivals is no longer only for pride but for new players too, with Jan Verthongen and Hugo Lloris opting to sign for Spurs instead of The Gunners.
Incidentally, the need for a top quality striker is one shared by both clubs and with the supposed availability of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, the battle for his signature will no doubt be heated, as Andre Villas-Boas and Arsene Wenger would no doubt want to add him to their squads.
Higuain is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League and Arsenal and Spurs are both interested, while sources in Spain also state the Argentine has been given permission to start negotiating a summer move.
After selling Luka Modric to Madrid, it can be assumed that Spurs and Real have a good relationship and that could make talks easier, while Arsenal have contacted his representatives to make them aware of their interest.
But with a hefty price tag of £22 million placed on the player’s head, who joined Real from River Plate in 2006, is this a striker we really need to sign?
There can only be one answer to that, and that’s YES! Simple as that.
Higuain has fallen behind Karim Benzema in the striking pecking order this season, so his cry for first-team football will no doubt be remedied by a move to either us or the smaller club near us.
The 25-year-old an excellent striker who loads of pace and great skill and will no doubt suit our style of play. In addition, Higuain is the prolific forward we have been craving since selling Robin van Persie to United last summer, with the Argentine netting 100 in 180 La Liga appearances.
With all the recent talk about the next transfer window going to be one of Arsenal’s most financially backed one, we should be able to sign him – even for £22 million.

£22 million is very good value for money in my opinion. He’s easily a £30-35 million striker.
Best transfer we can make by a country mile is Wenger out!
Even if he went the players we have would be improved without his tampering.
Bould could go back to defense drills (remember those clean sheets at the start of the season before Wenger got jealous and called time on them?)
Just one example from the thousand mistakes Wenger has made routinely.
For the sake of Arsenal get him out!
I would prefer to get young Draxler from schalke he’s gonna be better than Rvpunk in a couple of years! Mark my word.
Hmm established 20 goals a season striker who is only 24 or another 19 year old potential player who hasn’t proved anything at the top level…….
Could we not invest in both?
Ivorstephens you are on point
