Many of the Arsenal faithful reckon we will finish in the top four this season – and rightly so.
Although we currently sit fifth in the Premier League with nine games left to play, we are only four points adrift of fourth placed Tottenham – with a game in hand, and five behind Chelsea who lie in third. So we have every right to feel optimistic about our chances of acquiring a Champions League qualification spot, especially when you look at our remaining fixtures. And former Gunner Tony Woodcock believes his old club WILL achieve a top four finish because it is their only target this season.
Granted, we have stretched our trophy drought to eight years – which is frustrating to say the very least – but Woodcock feels we can take some consolation by continuing our impressive record of qualifying for the Champions League since Arsene Wenger’s arrival.
The ex-England striker recently told talkSPORT’s ‘Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show’:
‘The strange thing with Arsenal is when they are in all competitions they sell themselves short, but now I think they’ve got only fourth place to go for they’ve got a really good chance of taking it.
‘They’ve got one competition to concentrate on and I expect them to go for it and probably pull it off and get into the Champions League.’
