Fernando AmorebietaAthletic Bilbao’s is awaiting a formal bid from , as talks between the two clubs over a move continue.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to The Emirates in the last few weeks, after the Venezuelan centre-back said he will not be renewing his contract at Athletic Bilbao when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Although signed from Malaga in January, there are growing concerns that could be heading out of Arsenal, with Barcelona said to be keen on the Belgian defender.

Amorebieta’s brother recently admitted that Anzhi are keen to sign the Bilbao man, but says his brother’s desire is to play in England with Arsenal.

He told Spanish paper Marca:

‘We have had contacts with Anzhi, who are very interested in his services, but given the desire to play in England, that move cannot take place.

‘We are in contact with Arsenal.’

Amorebieta is a youth product of Athletic Bilbao but has played for Baskonia and Bilbao’s B before making his first-team for the first-team in the 2005/06 season. Since then, the 6’4’’ defender has made 235 appearances for the Basque club.
