Felipe Santana has put a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, on red alert after the Borussia Dortmund defender recently stated he is ready to leave Germany to seal a dream move to England.
The 27-year-old Brazilian has dropped down the defensive pecking order behind both Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic this season, leaving Santana considering his future at Dortmund. It is thought that he will review his situation at the end of the season after starting just 14 games for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He was recently quoted in the Daily Express saying:
‘I have read a lot about interest from Schalke, Hamburg, Hertha Berlin or Hannover.
‘But it is a fact that nobody has contacted me yet. There are no official offers.’
While there has not been any contact made by any Premier League clubs thus far, Santana says he would prefer a move to England over Spain or Italy:
‘Of course, Spain and Italy are interesting countries. But to be perfectly honest, for sporting reasons mainly, the Premier League is of interest.’
With Thomas Vermaelen’s future at Arsenal in doubt and Per Mertesacker attracting interest from Wolfsburg, who are reportedly preparing a summer bid for the German defender, Arsene Wenger could well have a look at Santana at the end of the season as he looks to bolster his defensive options.
