Aliyev confirms interest in out-of-favour Gunner

|

Andrey ArshavinAndrey Arshavin could be heading out of Arsenal this summer with a string of Azerbaijan clubs reportedly interested in the out-of-favour Gunner.

Arshavin has yet start a Premier League game for The Gunners this season (coming off the bench seven times), leaving many to believe that his time at The Emirates is actually up.

Fulham were interested in signing the Russian back in January, but a deal failed to materialize.

But it looks like Andrey has admirers in Azerbaijan, with Khazar believed to be frontrunners for his signature.

Yalchin Aliyev, a spokesman of Khazar, recently told Russian paper Izvestia.ru:

‘At the moment there are only four team in Azerbaijan who could be ready to pay for such a player as Andrey.

‘Apart from Khazar it’s Quabala, Neftci and Baki.

‘We have a new coach: the popular John Toshack. At the moment he has to check the squad and decide in which positions he should strengthen the team.’

As much as I admire Arshavin’s ability, the Russian international has, unfortunately, become surplus to requirements at Arsenal. And Wenger should look to sell him when the summer transfer window opens. We could do with Andrey off our books and use any potential return from his sale towards one of our proposed summer targets.
