The Sun reports Arsenal have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Victor Valdes.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper is set to leave the Camp Nou in the summer after the La Liga club agreed to end his contract a year early, providing they can get £10 million for him.
Valdes, who has been with Barca since 1995, has stated that he is not going to renew his contract as the Spaniard wants to experience ‘other cultures’, with England thought to be his preferred location.
Arsene Wenger has, in the past, tried to bring in another goalkeeper to challenge Wojciech Szczesny for the number one spot as Vito Mannone and Lukasz Fabianski have failed to do so. And with Szczesny the only keeper on the books that the fans feel comfortable with, Wenger would be wise to bolster this department.
I believe he would be an astute signing for us. Firstly, he would only cost us £10 million, an amount which wouldn’t make Wenger exactly faint. Secondly, he bags a wealth full of experience and has good reflexes and commands his area well. And thirdly, Valdes has a winning mentality, having won countless amounts of trophies with Barcelona.
However, should The Gunners be interested in acquiring Valdes they will have to be willing to match his £120,000-a-week wages he currently receives at Barcelona, and for that reason alone, I just can’t see this rumour developing into anything concrete.

Mannone is better than valdes and fabianski runs him close. valdes was until they signed song their worst player!
i would much rather see us sign a keeper who is already proven in the epl but any keeper worth his salt is going to think twice about coming to arsenal as szcesney is quite obviously a very good keeper. there arent many clubs who have two outstanding keepers united have lindegaard as back city have pantillimon chelsea have turnbull spurs have friedl. if we brought in a keeper better than szcesney he would ask for a transfer and we would be pretty much back to square 1.
