How Arsenal players fared against Aston Villa today – my ratings

|

Santi CazorlaHere are my Arsenal player ratings from today’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa (feel free to argue or agree with me):

Wojciech Szczesny – Had a fairly quite afternoon before conceding a shocking goal which he should have stopped. 5/10

Carl Jenkinson – Bombed forward well and always offered an overlap. Full of energy and delivered some good balls into the danger area. 7/10

Per Mertesacker – Kept position well but got caught out a few times due to his lack of pace. 7/10

Thomas Vermaelen – Like Per, the Belgian defender had a decent enough game. Kept position well and dealt with the threat of Christian Benteke. 7/10

Nacho Monreal – Defensively sound and equally as good going forward. Delivered a superb low cross into the penalty area which Santi Cazorla buried. 7/10

Mikel Arteta – Kept things neat and tidy in midfield and always wanted the ball. An assured display from the Spaniard. 7/10

Abou Diaby – Always looked forward and found space to manoeuvre in. Picked up yet another injury 15 minutes into the second-half. 6.5/10

Jack Wilshere – Once again showed why he is a future Arsenal captain. Full of energy and always looked to drive the side forward. Played some lovely passes throughout and got stuck in as per usual. 8/10

Santi Cazorla – A brilliant and influential display from the diminutive Spaniard. Scored our two goals and found space effortlessly. Man of the Match. 9/10

Theo Walcott – Was deployed out wide and was pretty ineffectual. Got forward well and his speed did cause some problems, but his delivery – apart from one particular cross in the last five minutes – and decision-making was lacking. 6.5/10

Olivier Giroud – Found space superbly and brought others into play. Left his finishing boots at home though. 6/10

SUBS:

Aaron Ramsey – Replaced Diaby in the 60th minute. Kept things tidy in midfield and wasn’t too ambitious with his thinking, which was good to see. 5/10

Lukas Podolski – Came on for Jenkinson in the 77th minute. Was inches away from getting on the score-sheet. 5/10

Laurent Koscielny – Was brought on in place of Walcott in the 91st minute just to strengthen our back-line. N/A

walcott was he on the pitch?

So what you suggest is that we had an above average performance? an avarage 6.9 rating comes out of your rating.. I don’t blame your blog work, but mate, this was yet another BAD performance! This is not the Arsenal I want to watch!

  • Sam says:

Your rating is rubbish. I have just came back from the game. Only Jack and Shanti and Jenkinson deserve rating. Rest is useless and zero rating.

  • Gwin says:

Too generous with your ratings. Giround and walcot should have hard 3 and 4 respectively. While the rest of the team excluding Carzorla have at least 1 deducted from ’em.

@Sam your English is so poor!!!

@Sam your English is so poor!!!A win is a win any day.the 3points are in the kitty.we will have victory over spurs

Despite the constant pressing ,the gunners could not win until late in the game. I shudder to think of what could have happened if they had lost.
As for Wenger’s insistence the gunners are not far off the the big teams,he can dream on.

Jenkinson deserves a 10 for his celebration at Cazorla’s winning goal. Proper GOONER that lad.

Arsene is really stubborn. Zonal won’t work for our team. It may work for other teams but not ours. Wenger is all about stats so he has probably seen somewhere that statistically zonal marking throughout a season is better than man for man. At the end of the season it may prove the case as last year we conceded a total of 49 with 12 being conceded
in only 2 pl games. So we might see it again next season. The next three games will be crucial for our top four chances. It’s between us and spurs for the last CL place. Everton are finished. On another subject, how the hell did we not get berbatov in the rvp deal? He would of been a suitable replacement.
