Why 2013 could be his year to shine

Over the years, as an Arsenal fan, we have always had the expectancy of an exciting young youth product to burst onto the first team stage. Most recently we can point to the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshire and Kieran Gibbs, who have all made an impact on the first string side. We have had excitement built on other players of course such as Denilson and Fran Merida to name just a few, and others who have left to have good careers at lower end teams like Seb Larsson, Jerome Thomas and Steve Sidwell.

It won’t be a surprise to Gooners to see the lack of transfer activity as Le Boss has always looked at players coming through and not wanting to block their development and an opportunity to play. Arsene Wenger clearly has extremely high hopes for Serge Gnabry, who joined from Stuttgart, represented Germany at U17 level and has already made his first-team debut in the Premier League. But since then you get the feeling Wenger may have thought it was a little too early for him.

The name who I feel will make a breakthrough this season and could have a massive impact to the side is Thomas Esifeld.

Eisfeld is a central midfielder, very much in the Frank Lampard mould, who has great feet and passing ability, as well as a knack of arriving late in the box at the right moment.

He joined the club in January last year after seven years in the youth set-up at Borussia Dortmund and has become the star of the U19 side.

Eisfeld was outstanding in the two Next Gen games recently against Athletic Bilbao and was easily the best player on the pitch on both games, and people will point to his introduction at Reading in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season as a game changer.

Time will tell of course, but I think Gooners can be very excited about Eisfeld making a massive impression for the club this season.

Arsene may not give him chance to prove himself. Remember FRAN MERIDA who was a victim of faint faith been reposed in him by le prof. Eisfield is a talent truly but may yet be a wasted talent if he does not move away. I hope am proved wrong by AW.

I think that Eisfeld is good enough to make a big impression. You have to remember that Merrida turned down a new contract with us and left on a free to Athletico Madrid and made no impact. The club loaned him out to Braga in Portugal and have since sold him to Hercules in the second division in Spain.

There are those facts about Merida, but I think you missed something important – he played like a donkey when given chances. He had one good game for the first team, against lower league opponents.

I agree and I wasn’t suggesting we made a mistake. He wasn’t good enough and what’s happened to him since he left supports that. I think for once Wenger’s belief in youth may be correct.

Merida was never really that good. Like most Spaniards he fell on the floor alot and to be honest if he was really that great he would have been snapped up by a half decent team when we decided to release him but he went to a relegated Segunda team – Heracles.

  • Wenger have now started humiliating players not developing them see boys like vela chamack gervinho they played we’ll before but now they become floops due to misrepresentation by the poor coach. even wilshere pick up when he was loaned to bolton for a just half season.to mention but few

Arsenal won’t win another title as long as Wenger stays in charge. This isn’t a personal attack on Wenger as a man but a statement of reality. His tactical awareness is lacking and his transfer policy is flowed, not to mention his ridiculous wage structure. But what’s most annoying is his insisting on Barca comparison – what illusions of grandure! .One is the greatest football club in recent history – perhaps ever , while the other can not beat Bradford City or execute a simple pressing against an inferior opponent. Selling your best players to rivals you intend to beat to the title makes as much sense as stating publicly that the fourth place is like wining a trophy. Securing CL qualification has been Wenger’s saving grace and I wonder if failing to do so this year will prompt him to admit failure. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
