SIX strikers Wenger could try and sign before the end of the month

|

Arsene WengerArsene Wenger recently admitted he will try to sign a new striker before the January window closes on Thursday night:

When asked if he needs to add some more firepower up-front before the month ends, Wenger replied:

‘Quality-wise, no. But number-wise we are maybe a bit short.

‘It will not be easy, though, because you do not find strikers who are good enough to play for us on the street.’

So with four days, including today, left to go of the January transfer window, Wenger will have to work hard in order to find that striker who would fit the bill at Arsenal.

Well here are seven possible strikers the Frenchman could look to acquire, if of course he is willing to spend a bit:

1. Stefan Kiessling – Bayer Leverkusen

The 29-year-old has netted 14 goals in 22 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen so far this season and leads the goal scoring charts in the Bundesliga with 13.

Kiessling, who has won six caps for Germany, possesses great movement off the ball and technical ability, and is a traditional fox-in-the-box, something our club is lacking.

West Ham reportedly lodged a £10 million bid for the German forward, but it was turned down by the German outfit, so perhaps an offer between £12-15 million would do the trick.

2. Bafetimbi Gomis – Lyon

The 27-year-old still has 18 months left to run on his existing contract but is said to be considering his future at Lyon and could well be available this month, with the Ligue 1 club reluctant to lose him for nothing in the summer.

The France international has scored 12 goals in 21 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this and is valued at around £12.5 million – a sum Wenger could well part ways with.

Liverpool and Cheslea are also said to be interested in the forward.

3. David Villa – Barcelona

The Spanish striker has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona and reportedly wants to leave the La Liga side this month.

Barca have slapped a £15 million price-tag on the 31-year-old, but Wenger is only prepared to spend £10 million on the Spain international due to his age.

Villa would certainly fit Arsenal’s style of play and link up well with fellow Spaniard Santi Cazorla.

If Wenger really wants him he could get him.

12-15m for a 29 y.o. striker with 6 caps.. Oh we bought one at the age of 26 with ~100 caps.. Seriously?

Gomis is so shite even the Lyon fans want him out, Giroud is five times better in every aspect. He’s a slow player with good heading ability, vey much in the Chamakh type.

Villa & Shaarawy are impossible deals.

Jovetic and Lopez are the only two possible (and worthwile) ones, but the former is very expensive at 25m. Lopez, who know. Maybe if atletico wants to sell, which is not the case right now, as they stand 6-7 points ahead real madrid.

Our team has no problem scoring goals but we do have problems preventing them,so why all this talk of centre forwards. It might behove us to add a decent centre back central Midfielder. The centre forward situation can wait till the summer

From what I saw Saturday we had better get a back up left fullback. Santos’ current form means that our entire season depends on Gibbs staying healthy.

Worry about the striker in the summer.
