Former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino believes Arsenal will not finish in the top four this season following their 1-1 draw with Southampton last night.
The Gunners currently sit fifth in the Premier league table, 18 points behind leaders Manchester United and five adrift Spurs, who sit in fourth, with a game in hand.
But Cascarino reckons Arsene Wenger’s side look the weakest in the pack that are chasing a top four finish, claiming all those above them are a better team than the North London club.
He told talkSPORT:
‘I don’t think they are a top four team.
‘You look at Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, Manchester United – even Everton are a better team than Arsenal.’
I firmly believe a top four finish is still very much possible, despite last night’s result.
We still have another 18 games left to play and with a few additions to the squad this January it can be achieved once again.
The best we can hope for, in terms of in the Premier League, is finishing in third position. But we need to start churning out better results against the lesser teams and, more importantly, far better performances.

Cascarino? That bloke that laballed abramovic as a “genius” because he sacks a manager every year? He’s an idiot that guy, don’t give him the attention he so desperately craves

Brilliant!
Tony Cascarino is the worst judge bar none.
Thanks Tony, you’ve just rubber stamped another year of CL qualification for Arsenal.
When will they ever learn.

Hate to admit it but he has a point, we’ll be lucky to finish in the top 4, unless there are some dramatic changes in the very near future. We’re falling behind the so called chasing pack, due to our own policies.

Yep, we’re in danger of finishing top of the leftovers if AW does not address those issues this window. We STILL need the monsta in the DM and a genuine 90 minute danger man out wide.If Arsene does not bring in some real entities I think it is proof that his bottle is finally empty.

We are not winning because of our tacticr. To play tiki taka ,distance between defenders, midfielders, and forwards must be close. At Arsenal while our defenders play tiki taka ,only Arteta makes himself available for the pass.If u look at barca,u can see they move forward as a Single unit(not when attacking on the break). To play efficiently we should not use lone striker, and winger who drift wide.also we need Strong DM,That will make the difference. And Vermalean must stop goin Forward when we are in the lead for Christs sake..sorry for the lengthy comment.I am frustrated.I dont mind losing ,but the way my team lose does matter.I need my team to Fight brutaly for the win…

At the moment, he is correct. If you asked 100 neutral observers I think about 85 would agree with him.
Currently, Arsenal have too many weak links. Sagna and Gibbs have been inconsistent to poor recently. The strikers have been questionable and they almost disappear when playing away from the Emirates.
There is too much dead weight on the team. The list of players who contribute little or nothing is way too long.
As an Arsenal fan for over 40 years I don’t like what is happening and it is up to Wenger to wake up and smell the rot.

I agree with you Geons, i am frustrated too. We are miles to inconsistant, in fact our only consistancy is that we are piss poor at the back.
There was a time i could only watch Arsenal because
our football was so superior to eveyone else in the premiership now a times i find us boring and predictable and many teams play more exciting football than us. this is because most of our players are very average to say the least.
Don’t think Wenger can pull us out of this one, i think he has run out of ideas.

As an Arsenal fan it is quite easy to shy away from the fact and delibrately remain delusional just as Arsene Wenger is and believe this present Arsenal team is going to make it. No, this team won’t as it is glaring for all to see. Tony Cascarino is right in his assessment. Except something dramatic happen in terms of beefing the squad expect to see Arsenal in the middle of the table as a Europa place would even go past them. This squad is so ordinary.

If Cascarino is right,it will be the first time ever. He has made a long career out of writing shit for the Times – I have never foind a single insightful comment from him yet.
PS: He was a crap player too.

The truth is bitter.but cascarino just hit the bull in the eye.this is a very ordinary arsenal side.the worst in recent memory.even teams like Wigan,Norwich and Southampton play better football.its not just about winning but even the kind of display they put up is appalling.the truth must be told, dis arsenal team can never finish in d top four and even they do,they dont deserve it.d few times dey have posted positive results, its not because they are fantastic, they have just been lucky.

That is the truth – Arsenal is a shadow of its old gone hay days!
The team is collapsing every year. we are not improving at all. Wenger should go, he cant move arsenal forward any further.

We suffer from two key things; Wengers’ approach and the lack of consistence. In this current position we need the kind of players that makes the difference, Arda Turaan,Bains, and Fellein. Talking of a striker we have Podoski, Wenger have to make him feel very important and give him the right position. I think Ramsey and Gervinho must go on loan. Wenger could be funny sometimes, Arshavine will always be better than Gervinho and Ramsey at any given day, let him work…

Never heard of Cascarino but after 65 years of supporting Arsenal I can tell you it`s not only the Gunners who are on the decline but the whole of English football. Only a fool would pay the gate fees and season tickets to watch them. The game is sick.

Cascarino is entitled to his opinion but on what does he base it?Current form?European progress? The fact is that Arsenal, despite playing poorly for two months out of five, are still right in the mix as always.Would Everton spurs or chelski be able to say the same?Anyway our club should be aiming higher than mere cl qualification.Utd and city are there to be caught as neither are particularly brilliant and we still have both to play. On current form we still have a chance and a good one.I read yesterday that the last time we had won 9 games at xmas was season 98/99 If I recall correctly that years we were a penalty at villa park and a late goal at Leeds away from another double

This is said every year.
The boys from the men are separated in the second half of the season where so many so called top 4 teams have better records.
