Montpellier recently confirmed that Newcastle have signed Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – have Arsenal missed a trick with the France international?

The Magpies have reportedly agreed a deal worth around £8 million to sign the now former Montpellier captain, who was being tracked by The Gunners throughout the last transfer window and the current one.

On Sunday, The Daily Mirror suggested Arsenal were considering making an 11th hour bid for Yanga-Mbiwa’s services. However, The Gunners were said to have ‘reservations’ about the versatile Frenchman.

Well Arsene Wenger either didn’t move quickly enough to compete for his signature or withdraw his interest in the 23-year-old altogether, as the Ligue 1 outfit confirmed Yanga-Mbiwa will be joining Alan Pardew’s side:

‘He became one of the spearheads but also one of the jewels in the Montpellier team.

‘The whole club wishes him good luck for the rest of his career.’

So, have The Gunners missed a trick with Yanga-Mbiwa?

Should they have challenged Newcastle all the way for the Frenchman’s signature?

Although the Frenchman looks a good young player, who possesses good pace, power and versatility, I don’t think he is what we were particularly looking for. Other areas of the squad need tweaking in my opinion.

With that being said, Yanga-Mbiwa would have given us more options in defence and midfield, and for £8 million he would have been regarded as an astute signing from Wenger.

He’s still only 23 and who knows, maybe we will be registering our interest in him when he’s in his prime.

We will have missed a trick if we sign someone who is worse. If Wenger decides instead to go for someone “special” and lands him, then fair enough.

Once he was given the chance to join United – I don’t think he would have joined you anyway.

They love to shout so much “God bless America!” where as we are thankful the bloody country is there as it keeps the fuckers away from the rest of us normal people!

No point in signing half a team this January. That approach has done for qpr and will do for Newcastle.Buy a decent holding midfielder and maybe vikla if the price is right and move on.We have games every three days or so for the next month and a bit so disruption must be kept to a minimum

By the time he’s in his prime, you will be not be able to attract players of his calibre….. You are destined for Europa this season!!! Ha ha ha…. Your demise will begin!
