Gus Poyet wants to manage Arsenal in the near future.

The Uruguayan made the shocking claim ahead of his Brighton’s side FA Cup Fourth Round clash with The Gunners on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger newly admitted his side could struggle to finish in the top four this season after a poor run of form and results. If The Gunners were to miss out on a Champions League qualification spot, along with another trophyless campaign, it could well increase calls for the legendary Frenchman to finally end his tenure at the north London club.

And Poyet, who once played for Chelsea and Tottenham, sees no reason why he couldn’t one day succeed Wenger, despite his past links with Arsenal’s London rivals.

The 45-year-old was quoted in the Daily Star saying:

‘I want to manage at the highest level and would love to manage Chelsea or Arsenal. Why not?’

He added:

‘Does my Chelsea or Tottenham past mean I cannot be Arsenal manager?’

Even if Wenger does NOT finish in the top four and win a trophy this season, I can still see him at the helm until his current deal expires, which is in fact in 2014.

Poyet has done a great job with Brighton and certainly has the potential to become a top-notch manager in the near future. But would I like to see the Uruguayan succeed the Frenchman as Arsenal manager? No. I just don’t think he is quite there yet to take up such a challenge.

He does have a similar style to the way Arsenal do things. However he does need to show that he can manage at the highest level to be able to manage the club.

You know the logos at the top of the page, with the white gun mounting the black gun… have you ever read Freud’s Interpretation of Dreams?
