Former Gunner insists Arsenal don’t need Villa signing to finish in top four

|

Arsene WengerRay Parlour has echoed Stewart Robson’s words by suggesting Arsenal don’t need to sign David Villa to claim a top four spot this season, and I’m inclined to agree.

The Spain international has been linked with a move to The Emirates in the past weeks. However, Arsene Wenger since distanced himself with a swoop for the 31-year-old striker.

The Frenchman recently stated:

‘Barcelona don’t want to sell, they’ve made that clear.’

But while many Arsenal fans believe they need Villa and reinforcements before tonight’s transfer deadline, Parlour insists the current squad is good enough to land a Champions League place, even without any new faces.

The former Gunner said:

‘I really thought he might go and strengthen, at least bring in one player in, but it appears David Villa didn’t want to come to Arsenal.’

Parlour truly believes that the club are working hard to secure deals, but suggests Wenger has not found the right player to improve the squad:

‘I’m sure the scouting system is working hard to find players for Arsene Wenger, but nothing has fit the bill.

‘It looks like he’s not going to buy anyone at the moment and he’ll have to go until the end of the season with the squad he’s got.’

He added:

‘If Olivier Giroud can bang a few goals in then he can fire them into fourth place.’

The potential signing of Villa would give us more guile up-front, no doubt about it. But I don’t think Wenger will bring in anyone from now until the closure of the window.

Aaron Ramsey seems to have ‘solved’ our defensive midfield problem, while Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky are back in contention – so in Wenger’s eyes, that’s like three new signings.

Diaby and Rosicky le new signings, I’m just waiting for them to be injured again. Just like Kieran Gibbs, can’t stay fit. The squad is wafer thin with lightweight injury prone players.

Arsenal won’t finish 4th this time, they needed a goalkeeper, some quality added to defence, a bit of steel in midfield, and a goals core up front. Ramsey isn’t the answer to our midfield issues, he was culpable for a part in Liverpool’s first goal.

“Barcelona don’t want to sell”, did we want sell Cesc to them, I don’t think so, but they persevered, truth is Wenger doesn’t want to buy. At least we won’t be lumbered with any more or his rubbish panic buys like Santos and Mertesacker before he leaves in the summer having failed to get CL qualification.

How come improved bids are being made for David Villa if it’s true Wenger is respecting Barcelona’s wish to keep the player? Also, a club wishing to keep a player does not permit other teams to talk to the player. A team of Arsenal negoriators have been in Barcelona for 3 days. They would not be thwre if this story was true.
