Arsenal target wants to stay put

Arsenal have heavily and repeatedly been linked with a move for West Ham’s Mohamed Diame this winter.

Yet despite having a reported £3.5 million release clause in his current contract at West Ham and Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn insisting he would be an ideal signing for his former club, the 25-year-old, who joined The Hammers last summer from Wigan on a free transfer, says he does not want to leave the East London outfit.

The Senegal international said:

‘I know there are people out there saying things about me, but I have spoken with the manager and told him that I want to stay here.

‘I know the club want to keep me too, so I will continue to give my best for them. I knew when I signed that West Ham were going to make their mark on the Premier League.

‘Since I came here I am enjoying every game I play on the pitch. I think I made a good choice because I am very happy at this club.’

So it looks like Arsene Wenger’s search for a robust midfielder is set to continue and with just six days left until the January transfer window shuts for another season, the Frenchman better get a move on and make things happen, if he indeed wants to reinforce his squad.

To be honest, I don’t think Diame would have improved our squad a lot anyway. Francis Coquelin is just as good as him in the holding midfield role.
