Will January be an ‘important’ month for Arsenal as ex-Gunner states?

Arsenal must be busy this January if they want to rescue their season, says Ray Parlour.

The Gunners find themselves 15 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United – after just 16 games played – and crashed, humiliatingly, out of the Carling Cup – a trophy they should have been contesting for in the final – to League Two minnows Bradford City.

And Parlour reckons Arsenal will not get any better unless Arsene Wenger gets rid of the ‘deadwood’ and brings in fresh new faces in the upcoming January transfer window:

‘It’s going to be so important this January window.

‘The performance the other night wasn’t good enough. You go to a place like Bradford and you have got to be on your game. Every single player has got to go out there like they are playing Manchester United.

‘He needs to get the deadwood out, he needs to get rid of people that don’t want to be there. The likes of Marouane Chamakh and Andrey Arshavin.’

‘They have got so many players who are on about seventy-five thousand pounds a week. They need to get them out. Sometimes they bring players down if their attitudes are not right in training.

‘Arsene Wenger has to look at his players and really up the quality because he has lost some unbelievable players in the last few years.’

Undoubtedly, next month will be an important one for our club. We must use this transfer window very wisely.

A lot of fans can see what needs to be added and removed from the current squad, yet Wenger stubbornly ignores our cries. He has the money to spend. The board have issued him a hefty sum to utilize, but the Frenchman doesn’t seem to like the idea of splashing the cash acquire what is desired, and this is frustrating as a fan.

Players like Denilson, Marouane Chamakh, Sebastien Squillaci etc need to be offloaded next month – why the hell are they still at the club?

I’ve said it in earlier articles; this winter window will define our season and possibly Wenger’s future. Hopefully, for ours and Wenger’s sake he gets it right!

Never mind January, the next two weeks are crucial starting with Reading away tomorrow. As regards additions to our squad surely Arsene is buying a defensive midfielder. I think that moving out some of our underachievers is key. Then, where possible,we could promote some of our youngsters. At least they would be hungry and trying to prove themselves. It worked for George all them years ago
