If he leaves, who should replace him? [have your say]

So Bacary Sagna is refusing to sign Arsenal’s offer of a one-year extension to his current deal, and it seems, for the moment, the club will not change their stance either. If it doesn’t, then we will no doubt be seeing the French right-back leave The Emirates in the upcoming summer, unless Arsene Wenger wants to risk losing him on a free this time next year.

Should Sagna leave the club then the position will certainly need to be strengthened. Yes we have Carl Jenkinson in the ranks and he has developed immensely since his arrival from Charlton in 2011. However, despite his energy, stamina, desire and pace, he is still very much inexperienced and needs time to hone his ability further.

Wenger could very well shift Laurent Koscielny out to the right, as he is currently being kept out of the starting line-up by Per Mertesacker. However, the Frenchman, I believe, is more effective and comfortable in the centre of the back four.

So if Sagna does decide to call time on his Arsenal career, who should Wenger look to replace the 29-year-old with?

The media have recently linked us with moves for Toulouse’s Serge Aurier and newly Barcelona’s Dani Alves. But who would you like to see Arsene bring in next month or in the summer to potentially replace Sagna?

Can’t afford Alves’ wages. If you go to Toulouse come back with Etienne Capoue, not Aurier. Debuchy seems the safest choice – he’s very much like Sagna. Van Der Weil could come for the right price but his defensive ability is still up for debate. I tihnk Jenky is the most immediate option – he hasn’t been terrible but inexperienced – he will come good with games though. If Wenger wants to try to pry Piszcek from Dortmund that could happen for some decent money but he’s well worth it. Lastly Gabre Selassie had a really good showing for the Czech Republic, he’s fast and strong though not terribly skilled.

  • Yeah Debuchy but he is Newcastle bound
