Haven’t we heard this all before?

Well it’s something we hear every transfer window, and this winter one there is no exception – Arsene Wenger will only sign a player next month if is ‘exceptional’.

The board have told Wenger he has cash to splash in January, with a reported £30 million warchest awaiting the Frenchman.

However, in true Wenger style, Le Boss will only add to an already ‘good squad’ if he can find an ‘exceptional’ player to strengthen it.

Quoted in The Sun, the frugal Frenchman said:

‘We are in the market but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad. But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him.

‘We lacked fluidity in our attacks against Wigan and continuity in our attacking play but we won because of our will to win.

‘And, with the way things are now, I won’t turn my nose up at that.’

I can understand Wenger’s mentality when it comes to the transfer window – we don’t just want any player walking in to our club who will not add anything to the squad.

However, we all know who the exceptional players are out there. So when he comes out with statements like this, pretty much every six months when the transfer windows come around, it does get under my skin a little.

We have got a good squad, but it can be improved in certain areas. So hopefully he can find that exceptional player he’s looking for next month and not just say the same old thing to cover his ARSEnal.

Here he goes again, I am now used to wenger saying that when the transfer window is nearing. To him gervinho, santos, squillaci are ‘exceptional’.
