A swap deal worth considering?

Let’s face it – Andrey Arshavin has no future at Arsenal. If he did, he would certainly be getting more opportunities than he currently has done this season. Out of a possible 24 games (in all competitions) played so far, the 31-year-old has only managed to feature 10 times, two of which he has actually started!

Although Arsene Wenger previously stated (in July) the Russian international is still in his plans and does have a future at Arsenal, recent sources suggest the Frenchman has told Arshavin he is free to go.

His loan move to former club Zenit, during the winter period last season, seemed to be Arshavin’s curtain call at Arsenal, and was highly tipped to move on after his return. However, despite being linked with moves to Turkey and Russia in the summer, Arshavin stayed put, much to the displeasure of several Arsenal fans out there (me not being one of them).

But having not started a single Premier League game this season, plunging down the pecking order and being 30+, it seems his time at Arsenal is all but up. And I expect to see him leave in January, or, if he’s lucky, at the end of the current campaign for sure.

Now, there is a rumour flying about claiming Arsenal will consider offers and all possibilities for the sale of Arsahvin in January, one of which may be worth contemplating.

RT.com claims Wenger is looking into the possibility of swapping Arshavin for Zenit’s Igor Denisov.

The Russian outfit were reportedly keen to sign Arshavin in November, but The Gunners rejected their approach.

Meanwhile, Denisov spent a month in the Zenit reserves side after publicly criticising the summer signings of Hulk from Porto and Alex Witsel from Benfica, branding both players as second-rate, and demanded a pay-rise.

Despite spending his entire playing career at Zenit, the 28-year-old defensive midfielder may have burnt his bridges with his club and could, could be sold in January, if a good offer is tabled. And if Arsenal are indeed ardent on acquiring Denisov and Zenit want Arshavin back, then this looks an ideal transaction to undertake.

Russian players dont tend to flourish in England so if I wereArsene I’d steer well clear. After all we’ve just wasted two years on Arshavin at 90 grand a week
