My thoughts on the Villa game and why a top four finish looks difficult

It was another frustrating day at Villa Park on Saturday. We drew with a team who’s a**’ were whooped 5-0 by Man City a week before which makes you wonder what’s wrong with Arsenal?

We created very minimal chances, with the best probably falling to Laurent Koscielny, who hit the ball over the bar with his weaker foot from six-yards out.

Contrary to what people are saying, I feel Aaron Ramsey produced a good display and gave it his all.

I’m not a big fan of Theo Walcott, but his presence was missed. He offers us pace down the flank and because of this can latch on to any through balls played to him, unlike Olivier Giroud. We should give the speedy basterd what he wants because he’s very crucial to the team.

Per Mertesacker was my MOTM. The German defender brings a lot of calmness to our back-line.

But in whole it wasn’t a sufficient performance from our boys.

In other news, we’ve been linked with a move for Liverpool winger Stewart Downing. But if he can’t get into Liverpool’s starting eleven, how will he get into the Arsenal set up.

Arsene Wenger is ‘losing it’ day by day. At times I feel as if we should sign a sporting director, like the way Real Madrid did. Someone whose responsibility is to sign players, as Wenger continues to frustrate in this area.

The January transfer window will be a really crucial time for Arsenal football club – it’ll determine whether we’ll finish in the top for or not, in my opinion.

Let’s hope Le Prof will acquire some top-notch players during the winter to aide our cause/

I love Arsenal and Wenger, but the current crop of players at the club can’t guarantee us a top four finish, not if recent results are to go by.

th problem we have at the minute is we are trying to play with a traditional No9 something we havent done for years. changing tact doesnt happen overnight sometimes you will get stonking performances (the sort that make you beleive your going in the right direction) sometimes you will run into a wall.(the sort of that make you think your going backwards.
I’m not sure we have the players to play with the traditional No9 we dont really have outright wingers with the exception of gervinhio who is at best erratic and worse still, unpredictable. under normal circumstances unpredictable is a good thing but not when its your own team wondering what you have planned with the ball at your feet.

Inconsistency is one character Arsenal must get rid of if we higher ambition than just top four finish. It is now clearly obvious in the current set up that we cannot do without Theo. Whenever he is not playing, we lack penetration. How many crosses did we make aginst Aston Villa? To me, playing Ox as winger does not help the team cos he has tendency to drift inwards and thereby cuasing more confusion in the middle of the pack. how do we maximise Giroud without quality crosses into the box? Which was exactly what happened against Aston villa. I quite agree with u that Theo should be given a new contract asap cos he is indispensable in our present squad.

Playing traditional 9 might just a plan B for the team to thrive when plan A is not working. I am beginning to see a lot of deficiency in playing Gervinho as a winger. How many crosses has he ever made into the box? He slows down counters, dwells to much on the ball when quick passes wuold have been effective and manages not to find a team mate in 90% of his final pass. To be candid, Gervinho will not thrive as winger in the current set up especially if Giroud is playing as the only striker. I also need him to be more decisive in the final third orelse he will remain on the bench till he goes for Cup of nations.

Gervinho is a good winger. Him, Cazorla and Ox are the only players in the team who can dribble past opposition players at will.

Gervinho on numerous occasions gets to the byline and cuts the ball across the face of goal and there is never anyone there to convert those chances. Had he been in united he would have racked up 20 assists or more.

His shooting and composure infront of goal are atrocious but principally his work is to supply, which he does. He will learn under Wenger how to shoot and compose himself and he shall be the most lethal winger in the league.
