Arsenal forward wants central role…and it’s not Theo!

|

Amidst issues regarding Arsenal’s problems up-front, Lukas Podolski has recently come out and added to Arsene Wenger’s headache.

The German international publicly revealed his intentions to play as a centre forward for Arsenal in a view to unleash his full potential for The Gunners.

Quoted in The Sun recently, Podolski said:

‘I’d rather play centrally up front.’

He continued:

‘On the left, I have to do a lot of defensive work, constantly running up and down. But I am not a classical winger.’

Podolski was a proven goal-scorer at former club Cologne, where he played as an out-and-out striker, scoring an impressive 18 goals in 31 appearances in his last season with The Billy Goats.

The 27-year-old added:

‘Arsenal was a change, a different country and a new club.

‘I am getting along well, for sure, but I demand more of myself – I want to play even better.’

Olivier Giroud’s inability to duly deliver in the centre forward role this season has already led to several strikers from around Europe, including Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, being linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium in the winter transfer window.

But considering Wenger’s reluctance in splashing the cash, I expect Poldy’s wish to be granted anytime soon by Le Boss.

How did Wenger end up with four players all wanting the central striker role? Didn`t he interview these players before signing?
