Arsenal are favourites to land Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in January, according to former Holland striker Erik Meijer.

Despite signing Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud in the summer, for a combined total of around £24 million, Arsene Wenger appears to be looking to acquire another striker to bolster his attacking options, with the Frenchman knowing he will be losing Gervinho to the African Cup of Nations in January.

Many forwards have been linked with a move to Arsenal in the winter, with the latest being Thierry Henry being tipped to make yet another sensational short-term return home. But while this move will no doubt appease the fans, it may not be the right way to go, especially if the club want to challenge for silverware and attain a top four finish come the end of the season.

Huntelaar’s future at Schalke remains uncertain, according to the club’s general manager Horst Heldt, as contract negotiations have stalled, and Meijer, a TV pundit whose agent Arnold Oosterveer now represents Huntelaar, reckons the Holland international is destined for The Emirates in January:

‘According to the information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the winter.’

He added:

‘Arsenal FC are the favourites to land him.’

He would be a superb buy for Arsenal, as he is an out-and-out striker who possesses great composure and loves to score goals, either with his feet or head

I desperately want Arsenal to try their best to sign him, but only time will tell if this will actually happen.

Fingers crossed.

It is true Huntelaar would be a good player at Arsenal, but he is champions league tied yet arsenal is most likely going to finish 2nd and will get a tough draw.

They need a striker who will assist on the continent and local league. Unless they are to also go for Lopez. They need a defensive middie and left back to be competitive at a reasonable level, otherwise they going to struggle again.

I feel it’s going to be a podolski deal where it is agreed now , but only official in the summer . Arsene will never sign him with him being cup-tied . . . He hates the January window as well , Henry in to cover gervinho , that’s probably the most we can expect

Do we really need a 29 yr old, to use him for one season. Supporters are pressurizing AW to lose his focus. Its better he buys Pato,Tello, or Carvani

I will not like the huntelaar move cos he is old.. I think Adrian Lopez would do.. He can play upfront and as a winger..thus giving Walcott an opportunity upfront with the swapping style

    not gonna happen…

I can see the huntelaar happening. its got wenger written all over it. you can see over the past year that he is far more willing to buy experience, he is coming to the end of his contract and for the icing on the cake. Rvp hates him. Would be nice to see hollands best 2 strikers face off at the grove. however on a personal note. I do think he is a tad old but maybe thats what we need, he will be cup tied in europe so that would keep him fresh for the league. Think i may have just sold the idea to myself lol. i joke of course i want Cavani!!!
