Arsenal are favourites to land Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in January, according to former Holland striker Erik Meijer.

Despite signing Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud in the summer, for a combined total of around £24 million, Arsene Wenger appears to be looking to acquire another striker to bolster his attacking options, with the Frenchman knowing he will be losing Gervinho to the African Cup of Nations in January.

Many forwards have been linked with a move to Arsenal in the winter, with the latest being Thierry Henry being tipped to make yet another sensational short-term return home. But while this move will no doubt appease the fans, it may not be the right way to go, especially if the club want to challenge for silverware and attain a top four finish come the end of the season.

Huntelaar’s future at Schalke remains uncertain, according to the club’s general manager Horst Heldt, as contract negotiations have stalled, and Meijer, a TV pundit whose agent Arnold Oosterveer now represents Huntelaar, reckons the Holland international is destined for The Emirates in January:

‘According to the information I have, Huntelaar will be gone in the winter.’

He added:

‘Arsenal FC are the favourites to land him.’

He would be a superb buy for Arsenal, as he is an out-and-out striker who possesses great composure and loves to score goals, either with his feet or head

I desperately want Arsenal to try their best to sign him, but only time will tell if this will actually happen.

Fingers crossed.

Huntelaar would be a great signing, carvani would be a great signing but since when does wenger spend 30m on a player? I think we need to strengthen our wingbacks, defensive midfield, and provide more options other than cazorla in attackin mid its becoming a bit predictable isnt it? I think we should go for Huntelaar (6m apparenty), his schalke team mate Holtby, Ba (7m)?, molumbu – I’ve been really impressed with him and shouldn’t cost too much and then baines or sakho
