‘Thank you Emmanuel Adebayor’ that is the chant that should be sung by Arsenal fans as a moment of ‘stupidity’ brought out the full potential of the much questioned Gunners side.

A 10th minute darting run by Jermain Defoe, which saw Per Mertersacker displaced, got a shot on goal which saw Wojciech Szczesny parry only as far as Adebayor who netted from five-yards.

Tottenham looked dangerous at that point, while Arsenal were clearly unsettled until an unnecessary and clumsy tackle by Adebayor, in the 18th minute, on Santi Cazorla, saw the Togo striker receiving his marching orders and turn the tide in Arsenal’s favour.

A strong penalty spot header by Mertersacker brought hope to Arsenal supporters, and they were jumping for joy as Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud goals followed on the stroke of half-time.

Spurs came back strong in the second 45 though and there was fear of a possible comeback as they went into a more attacking formation. However, the ever brilliant Cazorla believed otherwise as he slotted home from close range, putting Arsenal 4-1 up and three ahead of their rivals.

Gareth Bale managed to weave his way through the Arsenal midfield and drive home Spurs’ second from around 18-yards out. But Arsenal’s immediate dominance proved that the game was won and a repeat of the last season’s score-line was calling, as the introduction of Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain saw immediate impact, with the latter comfortably running through the tiring Spurs defence and found Theo Walcott free to slot home Arsenal’s fifth of the game.

Arsenal were 10 points behind Spurs last season, before their 5-2 victory and went all the way to finish one point above their north London rivals.

Let’s hope this win repeats history for Arsenal.

To conclude – impressive officiating by Howard Webb and a brilliant team display from the lads, especially Cazorla.

Happy day for Arsenal and the fans.
