Why can’t he make the breakthrough this season?

Arsene Wenger believes youngster Serge Gnarby can break into the first-team at Arsenal in years to come.

The highly-rated 17-year-old winger, who was handed a professional contract in the summer after impressing in the Reserves, has made three appearances for The Gunners this season, making his Premier League debut last weekend against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

And Wenger has tipped the Germany youth international to be a success at Arsenal.

Quoted in The Sun recently, the Frenchman said:

‘He’s 17 years old and has a lot of talent. Like all 17-year-olds it’s a bit too easy at that stage but the talent and personality are there.

‘With the rest he just has to learn his job – that at this level you have to master all aspects of the game, of being a football player.

‘But you see that he has the talent to make a good career.’

Undoubtedly, Gnarby has a lot of potential to become a huge star for our club. However, he needs to be patient and be nurtured in the right way for this to transpire.

To be honest, and this may make some of you laugh out loud, but I reckon the youngster can push our first-team players for a place in the starting line-up. He has the desire and hunger, as well as the talent and ability to do so, in my opinion. If you look at wing options in our current squad, we have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrey Arshavin, Theo Walcott, Gervinho and Lukas Podolski. Now apart from Gervs, the rest are not natural wingers – AOC reckons his future lies in the centre of midfield, Theo is apparently a striker, Podolski IS a striker, while Andrey likes to sit behind the main man.

So why can’t Gnarby start for us? If he’s good enough, which he is in my opinion, then he should be playing. Granted he is a little inexperienced, but if Chambo at 19 can make appearances for us and Jack Wilshere breaking through at just 18, so can Gnarby. This of course is up for Wenger to ponder over.

In any case, I’m glad the young German has finally hit the scene and hope to see more of him during the course of the season.

Is Gnarby capable of breaking through the first-team this season?

In 1958 Pele played for Brazil in the World Cup at just 17 years of age. The management of Brazil said, “if you are good enough, then you are old enough”.

He is good to go. If Sterling can do it, so can he.

Its amazing how many people spell the kids name wrong its gnabry not gnarby.

anyway i do feel that in GNABRY and ryo we have 2 genuine wingers if we could just get work permits for campbell and wellington i think we would then 4 genuine wide options. i appreciate that neother is setting spain alight and that campbell is usually a striker. but he plays really well on the right of a three. ryo.isnt exactly enjoying much time at wigan i wonder if that continues whether he could be recalled to replace arshavin or walcott in january. i personally think that walcott shpuld be given a chance as the striker and i think his pace and eagerness to prove himself would give reading then united and schalke a run for their money. its worth giving him 3 games lets face it 1 offside goal from our defensive midfielder in our last 3 goals has hardly pushed the case for giroud podolski gervinho. as for chamberlain i think he should be used as the understudy for cazorla once rosicky is finally put to sleep. the little mozart ochestrated a decent enough run of games to win a new contract but has done little since. like diaby he misses more than he plays. all that said as it stands we should only use wingers as an impact plan b. i would play a 442 with the midfield in a diamond formation. anchored by arteta and spearheaded by cazorla with wilshire and 1 other (diaby ramsey chamberlain rosicky coquelin frimpong) podolski giroud walcott gervinho would be the players currently contesting the 2 striker roles but i would sell arshavin chamakh park bendtner denilson and walcott if he doesnt sign a new contract bringing a midfielder a striker and a winger in. in defence i would sell squillaci and santos and bring in another left sided defender. i would also sell fabianski. 9 departures and 4 signings. however in the summer the fitures of diaby rosicky and sagna will jeed to be sorted one way or the other. my 4 signings? sakho or baines, hatem ben afrfa, demba ba and a midfielder just cant think of one may be cabaye or fellaini (sorry newcastle & everton)

as soon as le boss thinks he is ready, he will get games. just like Jack, Cesc and Theo did, at the appropriate time, and not sooner.

its tempting. give him opportunities but i dont think we should be pushing him just yet.
our team will be too young if we began starting gnabry, along with wilshere, chamberlain, ramsey, etc. balance is important.
