Should we keep the faith with this forward?

Like Arsene Wenger, I too believe Andrey Arshavin still has a part to play at Arsenal, despite his uncertain future.

The Russian made a cameo appearance in The Gunners’ 1-0 victory over QPR, helping set up the winning goal and lift the side in general.

The 31-year-old looked certain to leave The Emirates during the summer after being loaned out to former club Zenit at the end of last season, coupled with his apparent unprofessional attitude as claimed by reports.

However, Wenger believes this perception of the technical forward is unfair, and still has faith in the Russia international.

The Frenchman said:

‘[Arshavin’s attitude] has been questioned and I don’t tolerate it.

‘He comes in every day and practices well, he’s focussed and wants to do well. I insist on that because it was questioned and was completely unjustified.’

Despite there being a lot of competition for a place in the starting line-up, Wenger believes Arshavin has the capabilities to reclaim his spot:

‘Of course, the competition is open for everyone and Andrey is classy. He has a fantastic attitude and is a top professional and when he came on you could see his brightness and intelligence on the ball, it’s fantastic.’

At times he does look like he doesn’t want to be there, but nobody can doubt the talent Arshavin has, especially when he’s on it.

I still believe Andrey can be a big player for us, he showed what he can do in just nine minutes last Saturday, and hopefully tonight he shows us why he deserves more appearances than he is currently receiving.
