Is he the man Arsenal fans have been crying out for?

So apparently Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse is not very happy at St James’ Park after failing to repeat last season’s prolific form and losing his starting place in the side this term.

The Daily Mirror claims Liverpool and Tottenham are on alert and monitoring the situation, with Brendan Rodgers looking to reinforce his strike-force in January.

But with several critics, TV pundits and a lot of Arsenal fans believing Arsene Wenger still needs to sign a top striker in January, despite acquiring both Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, could Cisse be that man?

The 27-year-old was once linked with a move to The Emirates before making the switch to Newcastle from Freiburg in January 2012, and with news suggesting the striker is growing restless at Tyneside, should Arsenal register their interest in the Senegal international?

In my opinion, if Wenger is indeed looking to strengthen his strike-force in January, then Cisse would be an ideal signing for The Gunners.

He is powerful, has great technical ability and is an out-and-out goal scorer. In addition, he also has Premier League experience under his belt, so adapting wouldn’t be an issue. His Newcastle record to date isn’t bad either – 16 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions.

Would he suit our style of play? I believe so. He reminds me a little of Giroud in the way he holds up play and his off the ball movement, but with the clinical finishing.

If he is put up for sale this January, then Wenger should definitely consider signing him. Even former Gunner Ray Parlour has urged the club to go for him following the departure of Robin van Persie in the summer

However, I think other positions need to be addressed first.

Would Cisse fit the bill at Arsenal?

Just imagine RvP is still leading the Arsenal team, just imagine. It is difficult for strikers to maintain high strike rate across different clubs, but RvP does and may be better and what does that tell us? He is unique and AW fails badly to grasp the commercial implication. A MASSIVE miscalculation in which every way one looks at it. It will take more than £24 M to replace him in scoring ratio, what a diabolical cock up where no clever words could patch over. Another patch up striker from the EPL?

We probably won`t get either player. Theo will leave and Cisse wont come to Emirates simply because our club is owned by a rich cheap-skate and we wont pay `market` wages.

Strange situation at Newcastle if we can believe what we read. The kind of form Cisse was in just doesn`t desert a player for no reason. He could rekindle that form under Wenger and it`s worth a chance, if the price is right.
