A ‘blow’ to Arsenal…really?

Arsene Wenger has made some strange statements over the years and he has obliged us with another.

The Frenchman recently claimed losing Abou Diaby is a massive blow to The Gunners – really?

The 26-year-old box-to-box midfielder suffered a thigh strain in the defeat against Chelsea on Saturday and is expected to be out for at least three weeks, and Wenger insists the France international, who only played five games last season, will be a huge loss.

He was quoted in The Sun saying:

‘Losing Diaby is a blow, yes. Not only because we lost a good player but because he has qualities that the other players haven’t got.

‘For example, on Saturday when he went off, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on, took his position straight away and we lost the ball for a set-piece.

‘It was a ball Diaby would have won easily because he has the size. We have better balance with him because he has the power.’

He went on to say:

‘It is really frustrating because once you think you get there it happens again.’

Now I don’t know about you guys but despite that ‘outstanding’ performance against Liverpool at Anfield, Diaby has been fairly average.

He has ability but I don’t believe he will ever reach his full potential due to the fact he’s injury-prone.

He only managed to play five games last season and has already surpassed this tally with six in all competitions, so well to the lad for that. However, for Wenger to claim Abou is going to be a massive loss is far-fetched because he wasn’t a regular last season. Besides, we have a lot of options in midfielder as Wenger suggests, so there is really nothing to worry about:

‘We have Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. It depends on if you want to be more offensive.

‘Arteta can play higher and deeper, as well. So we can put a deeper midfielder in like Coquelin and then Arteta can move forward.’

What do you guys reckon?

    @Zaidovski
This comment is a disgrace and Gunnersphere is even more of a disgrace for putting it up. This surely cannot be legal?

Everyone needs their Cerebral Cortex checked; without any doubt Diaby is an immense talent. Its just very sad to see such innate ability perish through injury. There’s a cosmic difference between a ‘Fan’ and a well informed individual who can ‘see’ that Diaby has qualities that surpass all. Agreed, he is injury prone but don’t for one minute believe that this guy does not hold the ability to destroy any opponent.

    • Zaidovski says:

If Diaby was English or welsh, then fans would worship and praise and tolerate any thing he does.
But Diaby being French means he gets abused and criticised.
Ramsy is a twat that has no quality yet they all worship and tolerate him.

      Biased useless English fans.

That’s why England is a joke in the world cup.

diaby is out of this world talent wise. he can do things that others only dream about. he is also massive on set pieces. diaby is better than every current england international- bar none

  • Daddy says:

@Zaidovski, You’re a fuckind twat, would love to see you try and do what Ramsey does for 10minutes bet you’d shit your pants under the pressure. Jewish cunt.

  • Oja says:

Diaby has done well this season. His absence is being felt. We hope Arsene will sign a natural DM. Up gooners!
