Ok, so Robin van Persie is highly likely to be sold this summer after the Dutch striker revealed earlier in the week that he will not be renewing his Arsenal contract beyond 2013.

The 28-year-old’s recent revelation has certainly come as a shock and undoubtedly rocked the club, us (the fans) and will put some form of doubt in many of the Arsenal players’ mind, none more so than Theo Walcott.

The England winger is in exactly the same boat as Van Persie – he too only has one year left on his current deal at The Emirates and has yet to be offered an improved one by the club. And after hearing that his captain wants to call it quits after eight years of service, will the 23-year-old follow in his footsteps?

Now I can’t answer this particular question, only Theo can. But I reckon he will now be seriously considering his options, if he wasn’t already.

Chelsea and PSG are rumoured to be interested in the England international and with no signs of us offering him a new deal, the possibility of seeing another Gunner departing this summer looks highly likely to ensue.

I for one don’t particularly rate Walcott, but to lose him, if Robin is sold, could potentially be disastrous. I only say this purely because of his assist rate he had last season. We have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain waiting in the wings, but Theo has experience and is an impact player which we could do with in our squad.

Honestly, if Robin was staying then I wouldn’t care less about Theo departing this summer. However, as the opposite is happening, I would like to see Theo remain a Gunner for at least one more season, even if we lose him on a free next summer. But after seeing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri leave last summer and Van Persie not prepared to stay any longer, I reckon Theo will be following the Dutchman out of the door.
