Arsenal seem to have slowed down to a crawl in the transfer market – something that’s becoming a bit of a worry for many reasons.
Maybe something that could wake the board up is the potential departure of Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United.
The 31-year-old Bulgarian took to Facebook to outline his desire to leave Old Trafford, posting a status which read: ‘Let me go!’
The man who cost £30.7 million four years ago from Tottenham is now available for reportedly £5 million!
The former Spurs striker says he is no use to anybody at the club after falling out-of-favour with Sir Alex Ferguson.
Berbatov recently said:
‘The truth is I love this club, but I am not going to be useful to anyone if I am not playing, and I want to play, I want to help.
‘But for unknown reasons it’s not going to happen or my chances will be limited, so it’s better for everyone if we say goodbye.’
He finished off by saying:
‘If not, I am professional and I will keep doing everything I can to help my team whenever I have the opportunity to do so.’
When Berbatov stated he would be available for just £5 million, he requested for talks with Fergie, after rumours surfaced saying United wanted £10 million for him.
He went on to say:
‘I am tired of speculation, I am telling you this.
‘I read the papers and I see they say £10m is my price.
‘I talk with Sir Alex and he says £5m.
‘So who is telling the truth, what do you think?’
Well. If he is available for £5 million, as he suggests, should the Gunners make a move for the ex-Spurs forward?
I’ve often labelled Berbatov as a lazy striker – someone who jogs rather than sprints.
But he does have some excellent skill and has a piercing eye for goal. He has that ability to do something brilliant in every game.
However, I don’t think we should go for him. Not because of his past clubs, but because we have a large number of strikers at the club already.
If we had ditched the deadwood then I would have taken him for sure, purely for the fact that he is a skilful player who has loads of Premier League experience under his belt.
Should Arsenal make a £5 million move for Berba? Or would it be best for the club to invest the money elsewhere?

Not really, we should be aiming for top quality not a player past his best. This is the kind of player a newly promoted team should be chasing.

I agree. Arsenal shd focus on top quality. By that I mean players past their peak and kids with wc potentiall.Too many of these guys have failed and much time has been wasted.

Arsenal shd not sign players past their peak like Wenger did with Silvester and Campbell.It was really comical when these two went against Messi. He absolutely destroyed them.
Bt w if RVP goes to OT and helps them win the cl or epl or both and the gunners can’t even challenge,this will how far Wenger has caused Arsenal to decline.He shd resign before he is fired.

This is a bit different. Silvestre had just been out with a massive injury and didn’t recover, and Sol had been in and out of the game for years, so really was past his best.
Berbatov just hasn’t been given enough chances at United, and the reasons for that aren’t really clear. Even Utd fans don’t really understand it.

Rvp has already told us that Arsenal aint going to buy thats why he is leaving! Wenger Out.
Get a grip people, we aint going to splash out. It will be painful watching spurs splash out! Maybe we could buy Martin Fulop!

We dont need him in arsenal.i will see whether wenger and d board are crazy enough to sell van persie to manu united,if he goes.that means we are nt ambitious to carry trophies at all,just a business venture club.wenger should start weighin d midfield,we need hungry midfielders nt ramsey,frimpong,coq in d heart of d midfield.quality midfielder will determine d strength of d squad.i just dont know we are too slow in d transfer market,wenger and d board should wake up becos coming season will be stronger than last season.my problem wit arsenal is during transfer market they renew players contract rather than facing the transfer market in getting d squad strong 4 d season.they take too much time in renewing players contract,when others are busy re-enforcing or buying players into d club.As we are going 4 pre-season tour,we should go along wit our new players so dat they can blend together.wenger pls buy a dmf,creative midfielder so dat they can go along wit d squad to Asia.

Come on guys, what’s wrong with Arsenal going for Dimitar? How big are we than Barcelona and Real Madrid who have gone for veterans before-and won things? Barca signed Henrik Larson, Edgar Davids in their 30′s. Real signed Carvalho in his 30′s and won the title. Sir Alex Ferguson signed Laurent Blanc in his 30′s. Today many Arsenal fans are still crying for Benayoun to sign permanently-he’s in his 30′s. Why not Berbatov?
We are not any better than the clubs mentioned above in terms of achievement. Sign Berbatov, Wenger, he’s much better than the Bendtners and Chamakhs of this world, isn’t he?

This is a stupid article. We’ve just signed two strikers. I’m not sure if you were watching last season but our problem was our abysmal defence which we’ve done nothing to rectify. Berbatov would want massive wages and a guaranteed starting spot, neither of which he’s likely to get at the Emirates. We’re going to fall away this season, I don’t think we’ll even get top 4, everyone around us is improving while we go backwards under the stubborn stewardship of Mr. Wenger, we will win nothing until he’s gone.

Our defence wasn’t that bad for the bulk of the season. Our main problem was that horrendous start, but after the first 8 games, our form was actually better than city’s for many many weeks. At the end we ran out of steam a bit, and that needs to be addressed, but I’d say making sure we’re properly covered for an Arteta injury, and that we have a reliable attacker to replace Benayoun (who was brilliant for us at times last year) are the real priorities.
Our worst starting defender last year was probably Vermaelen, but I don’t think many people would say he should be deposed – they want to make him captain ffs!

What are you all talking about so far it’s only Chelsea that have signed more players then us, one more. Before moving on to new players you first need to sort out the situation of the existing ones, that is smart business. And all these calls about Wenger out is just silly this guy has got us punching above our weight and at the same time playing good football. You just need to wait and see quality players are not easy to find and also I think we have two good strikers so if RVP leaves we should be call no need for berba, just chill out people
