I’ve been hearing a lot of noise from many fans, on Twitter, insisting the club should sign now that looks like he’s on his way out.

Clint Dempsey? Really? Are you guys for real? An average Fulham player coming in to replace one of the world’s best forwards? Sorry, but I just can’t and don’t want to see this happen. If it does then this will show a clear sign of the club going backwards and what Robin was referring to in his recent statement.

I just don’t see what all the hype is about Dempsey to be honest.

Firstly, the guy is 29-years-old, is it really worth bringing him in at this age? Will he be picked ahead of the likes of , Lukas Podolski or even ? I don’t think so. Technically, he is far inferior to the aforementioned players in both style of play and ability in my opinion.

Secondly, we already have enough firepower and attacking players in our squad, all of which are better than the American.

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, he is not a top four team player, let alone an Arsenal one.

Granted, Dempsey did have a productive season for The Cottagers, bagging 23 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions. But like Van Persie, he’s only had one great season in six for Fulham.

Personally, I don’t think Dempsey is the way to go, if of course is looking for another striker.

As stated before, I believe the potential signing of the USA international will be a step backwards and, more importantly, prove Van Persie’s point.

Am I talking sense or chatting jibberish? Let me know Gooners!

Since when has he been average? Always been a very good player and last season he was excellent.

Obviously not a Van Persie replacement, but I can’t see how he would be anything other than a very solid addition to the squad. More productive than Rosicky, better goalscorer than Chamakh, and more reliable than Walcott. Could see him doing a good job for us utilised in a squad role as a attacking midfielder, main striker or support striker.

If the rumoured figures of 6-8m are true, it would be an excellent signing, but I’m not convinced Wenger is interested in him and think he will end up at Liverpool.

We signed a 29 yr old Arteta for £10m, and the vast majority of Arsenal fans now consider that an excellent deal.

he’d be a great addition in terms if providing depth. the fact that he’s
used to the physicality if the epl is a major bonus as was proved by arteta @mwanzaholic #TeamArsenal

What planet are you on. You obviously know nothing about football. No Dempsey would not be a replacement for RVP but he would definitely be a big improvement on our goal shy squad. Rosicky is nowhere near Dempsey class and what other players have we that are a better goalscoring threat from midfield. Clint Dempsey is a great player worth signing on a 3 year contract. I would welcome Dempsey to Arsenal any day better than some of the crap we have bought in recent years.

Hear hear mate. dempsey is a fantastic player and his game is now on a new level 29 so he is the same age as rvp but without the injury problems

One hit wonder? Dempsey? he had 13 goals and 3 assists in all matches (39) the season before….not so bad for a midfielder

agree with all of the above. You failed to compare his goalscoring stats with any of our boys, I think it would look favourable, and that’s with an average team around him

Wow this is the stupidest article iv read in a while, and the fact the title is get serious is hilarious, you need to get serious.
If RVP leaves podolski and Giroud will play ST. If your too thick to work that out i worry.
If podolski is going to be used as back up for ST we need someone who can play LM. oh Dempsey can play LM!? The fact he is versatile and can play cam and st is irrelaveng. He is not an RVP replacement.
If RVP goes we should spend big on a CAM/Second striker type player like Muller or Jovetic. Not sure what players of this kind fit arsenals pricing but sll miney from RVP should be put towards it so seems plausible to me.
Mvila and dempsey should be signed whether he stays or not tbh.

Dempsey is an improvement on diaby, ramsey, gervinho, walcott and rosicky so stop telling us to get real we only have arteta, song, wilshere and the emerging ox who are class, ovbs dempsey wudnt replace rvp but he would be a good goal threat from midfield. i would prefer arsenal to buy jovetic or gotze but that dosnt mean im goin to bash dempsey when we should be so lucky to have him

how is he an improvement on Walcott when Theo is 7 years younger and got 4 more assists in two less games last season whilst having the likes of RVP to compete with in front of goal plus one of Europe’s emerging talents Ox competing for his spot, who does dempsey have to compete for goals with? Fulham’s second top scorer is on 2 goals! and you say Dempsey is a midfielder

Get real!! Walcott is an out and out winger, hes supposed to get goals and also set them up. Dempsey is an AM. he got enough assists and scored double what Walcott scored last year. Is Arteta an improvement on Ramsey? I think so! You lots fascination with youth is so bizzare! Dempsey would be a quality addition to your side, but i would rather he went somewhere where the fans would appreciate him. Dont know what planet you lot are on!! Your a mediocre side at best and one that lacks experience across the majority of the side….

When youve stopped crying take a step back and think about it you twa* theo has got 7 years to get to his prime where dempsey is now. No one said they dont want dempsey you moron.
Wed all love him, and he wouldnt play AM for us cause we are not a mediocre side like fulham and dont need him as our playmaker. We would play him LM.
i love how you cry like a bitc* and call us average when we have had Rvp, Fabregas, Nasri, Wilshere, Sagna, Kosc, Vermaelen, i wont even go back further for your sake.
But keep thinking that after all youve got um um um.. Nevermind.

    FulhamFan Reply:

i LOVE the way you used the word HAD….yes you HAD Nasri, you HAD Fabregas, you HAD Adebayor, you will soon of HAD RVP. Your a dying club, Spurs are growing in strength whilst you die.

If it werent for Chelsea being shocking and Spurs not winning for 10 games youd have been 5th. 56% of your goals is about to walk. Your mediocre. Also i love the way your trying to talk down fulham…..4 points this year you dropped against a mediocre side! Your in dream world, your no longer a threat. Side of kids that will walk when they get half decent. English Ajax…..but no seriously your great and that 8 year drought will soon come to an end!!! hahaha bunch of mugs

Dempsey would be a great signing. This article is spouting complete cr@p. Dempsey has been a consistent performer and goalscorer for the last 6 seasons for fulham, as well as getting quite a few assists by the looks of it as well. He is not a like for like replacement for RVP, and lets face it, we won’t get a goalscorer with near RVP’s record anyway, so fans are always going to be disappointed with whatever AW does.
If we could get Dempsey for under 12.5m, I would be a ridiculously happy man.
