An obvious observation?

Just when we thought his story had ended, more rumours pop up.

Robin van Persie has been attracting interest from all over Europe, as well as Premier League rivals, with Manchester United eager to sign the 28-year-old Dutchman.

As a result, former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has come out once again to make a statement on the situation.

He says that we need to replace Van Persie with the money we make from his potential sale, but also admits that it will not be an easy task.

He recently told talkSPORT:

‘The most important thing for Arsenal Football Club, because no player is bigger than the club, is that whatever money they get for Van Persie, £20m or £25m, they have to reinvest it this time.

‘When Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri left they didn’t reinvest it but now they definitely need another striker.

‘They’ve got Giroud and Podolski coming in but they definitely need another top class striker and with that £20m that’s what Wenger has got to try and do.

‘He has got to find that little gem that can step into Van Persie’s shoes but it is not going to be easy.’

I honestly find no point to his statement – it is just an obvious observation. Of course we need to spend some money on another world class striker if Van Persie is sold -that’s the whole point of selling someone on, to replace them with someone equally as good, if not better.

Though it must be said that Arsenal don’t usually do so and I get where Parlour is coming from.

Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud are good players, but when Van Persie leaves we will need to sign a proper, ready-made replacement for the Dutch striker.

I agree that Parlour’s statement was obvious and I see no point to it but the same could be said of this article that says nothing.

We need a quality goal scoring midfielder not a forward podolski, giroud, gervinho ( being played upfront pre season) and chamack, its our midfield we need to improve cazorla for creativity and strootman for defensive duties prob be 30-35 million for those two but sell rvp and arshavin and bendtner and we have it!!

totally agree with joey, we never replaced Cesc and with Jack and Rosicky injured we need someone other than Ramsey to create chances. Song is great but we need a strong creative attacking midfielder.

Not only is ‘no player is bigger than the club’. ‘No manager is bigger than the club’, too.
    Leave, Wenger.

  • And equally, ‘no supporter is bigger than the club’. WillG, there’s the door me old china.

We never replaced Fabregas because there are only a handfull of players of his caliber and they all play for Spain and cost upwards 50 million euros , which is more than double what Wenger can spend on a player. Some players are irreplaceable and Fabregas was one of them. Best Arsenal can do, is to try and compensate in different areas which Wenger is trying to do. I have some issues with Wenger decision making but blaming him for not wanting to spend money is disingenuise. He is a very loyal employe and and you will never hear him criticize Stan Kroenke , but he is the one you should voice your complaints to.

There is much talk about how difficult it will be to obtain a replacement for Van Persie.
I would agree but only if his one good season for Arsenal is the yardstick to go by.
Like one-trick ponies such as Adebayor, there is no guarantee that a good season will be repeated.
With our young talent pushing for promotion, plus the new signings (not ended) I feel that a far stronger Arsenal will emerge come August 18th.

What makes Parlour thinks that either Giroud or Podolski cannot perform as much as RVP ?. We must stop making RVP assumes a tin god position and make him feel irreplaceable. When Fabregas, Nasri, and Clichy were around, we ended up forth and when they left we ended up third, so RVP leaves we may win the trophy. Enough of RVP’s palaver, he is not indispensable, let him go o o.
