Well this certainly put a smile on my face – Johan Djourou is keen to leave Arsenal this summer for a club in Italy, according to his agent.
The Swiss centre-back started just 14 Premier League games for the Gunners last season and, as a result, recently admitted that he is considering his future at The Emirates this summer.
Despite signing a new contract in February, keeping him at the club until 2015, the 25-year-old has fallen behind Per Mertesacker, Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order, and this seems unlikely to change, especially considering the partnership of the latter two defenders mentioned.
But Napoli seem keen on Djourou, according to his agent Flavio Ferraria, and he didn’t rule out a move to La Liga for his client either:
Ferraria was quoted on SkySports.com saying:
‘Can Djourou join Napoli? It’s certainly possible, especially as we will be in Italy next week for a series of appointments.
‘At the moment Napoli are not on the list of appointments, but everything is possible. If he leaves the Premier League, then he will play in Italy or Spain.’
He added:
‘I saw my client the other day and he was enthusiastic about both Napoli and Italy in general. So far we have received an offer worth €10m, but it is up for negotiation.
‘He wants to play for one of the top five Italian clubs.’
If he is ‘enthusiastic’ to leave Arsenal then I’m enthusiastic about it as well.
I really don’t rate Djourou and I think he has overstayed his welcome.
Ferraria says the club have received a €10 million (£8 million) offer for Djourou’s services; I think we should take it and run!

an inept defender even when he was on song which wasn’t often. If Wenger extended his contract in Feb when arguably he was playing the worst football of his career he should be made to pay up his contract just to get rid

I am sure he did the best he could and it cannot be easy when he only played occasionally (eg. at right back) but he is/was basically one of Wenegr’s overpaid gold boys.

Sounds to me like the €10m euros is the contract package for Djourou ( over however many years) rather than the fee offered to Arsenal to buy his registration.

Fingers crossed. Still a lot more dead wood in the squad though.
Really hoping we sign 3 or 4 good players. With a few tweaks we could push for the league.

Made me laugh who would do inside arsenal, but good to see the intent is there to clear dead wood and gives us room for possibly a small squad but bigger wage earners which could mean better players.

Djourou is a good player and has saved our skins many times, its a shame he never got back to the form he did after that injury. Its nice to see people appreciate all the good hes done for the club… Not from this article obviously.

I think Djourou had the option of automatically renewing his contract for an additional 1 or 2 years, which is what he did recently, he wasn’t given a new contract.
Would be happy to get rid of him at any price above £2m.

Yeh, he was only our best central defender last season.
He played well when was on the center, this season, for the most part and even put in a shift at right back at times.
Maybe Miguel or bartley will take his place but I for one wish he would stay.

What a load of balls. To think that someone would be silly enough to print a story like this. Djourou is on £60k a week so we’d have to pay €10m to be rid. You the same fool who shovelling the Chamak for Giroud rumour .. Come in give us some real news ..

€10m definitely the contract to Djourou not to Arsenal. Can’t see him fitting in at Napoli but who cares? Anything around £5m, see you later.

Will miss his “Hi Guyssss” greeting on Arsenal insider though. Lol. I will advise you fellas take it easy so someone doesn’t have a re-think. With all these ‘ratings’, we won’t get anything for him.
