The 24-year-old France international was supposedly on the Gunners’ radar following two productive seasons at Sochaux, which saw him create 26 goals and net five, as well as being short-listed for the UNFP Young Player of the Year award.
However, after cashing in on Eden Hazard, who signed for Chelsea last month, Lille has beaten Arsenal and Spurs for the services of Martin.
This will not exactly come as good news to Arsene Wenger and some Arsenal fans out there who rate the French maestro highly. I for one would have loved to seen Martin come to Arsenal this summer, but there are other options out there for our club to consider – Alan Dzagoev springs to mind.
We’ve already got Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud looks to be on his way after the Euros, but I still think we lack a create midfielder. This, in my opinion, is a necessity this summer.
On to the next one Wenger!
