Why Arsenal shouldn’t accept this proposed swap deal

It appears Fiorentina are looking for a deal which could see them land want-away striker Marouane Chamakh with youngster Adem Ljajic move in the opposite direction.

Ljajic made the headlines this season after former Fiorentina boss Delio Rossi punched the player following a substitution whereby the 20-year-old sarcastically applauded his manager’s decision to replace him during a Serie A match against Novara. As a result of his actions, the Florence-based club parted ways with Rossi, who was fined £12,000 fine and given a three month ban.

Having scored just four goals last season for Fiorentina, you’d have to question the decision to accept the swap deal on Arsenal’s part. However, you could argue that Chamakh himself hasn’t exactly done better. In fact, the Moroccan only scored one goal for the Gunners this season! Also it would mean that we would have one less player who we would lose to the African Cup of Nations, which would be a bonus to the club in general.

I for one am not 100% convinced about this proposed transfer. There is no doubting that Ljajic is young enough to come in and improve dramatically, but you have to question any player coming in and being able to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.

There is no doubt, in my view, that Chamakh will be leaving Arsenal during the summer. However, I don’t think the swap deal in this case would really benefit Arsenal, and I think the only reason Fiorentina are considering this move is to get rid of a player who has under performed this year.

No deal for me, despite Chamakh’s lack of impact this season.

Chamakh for Ljajic – would you swap?

  • You are not sure of what you are saying my dear, how could you say that the guy will not fit in the Epl? Remember he is from Serbia, a fellow to Chelsea Ivanovic and Vidic of Manchester United, so my guy strongness runs in their blood. Secondly, you have to consider his age he will be a very good player for us in the future. Next season we want to have good players on the bench, players that can change game when introduce. For instance against Chelsea, second tie at the Emirate we needed to score but no good player on bench that will finish up the business. Arsene Wenger, please go for the guy no time for dulling. Its a good swap because if you want cash for Chamakh,i don’t think any club will be willing to pay 7m for him, so use your brian and get this guy in exchange for Chiamaka. Gunner till death.

Going to florence and coming back with Ljajic instead of Stevan Jovetic is a stupid man’s game.

We’d already be short a striker if we offload Chamakh and there’s that issue of not even having much actual scoring strikers bar RVP. Poldi will probably change that but I will stake my claim based on results not his reputation (though I do admire the one he’s built for himself). In any case with Vela going, Bendy going, Arshavin hopefully going, Park doing nothing, where exactly does that leave our striker bench? RVP and Poldi? Jovetic already scored more goals than any of our strikers that isn’t RVP on a team that’s five times inferior to ours. I can’t imagine what he could do with the our kind of scoring opportunities.

We need a real playmaker, not one in the making. At his age how well do you really think he’s going to be? in a position we have immediate urgency for? We need someone coming into their prime or with a better record than Ljajic because his return on investment projection right now is low. He may develop into a good player one day but we sohuld be tired of buying players who have yet to come around and buy players who are already there.

That is how we will start winning things again.

Podolski is enough cover. Park 3rd choice. Walcott and Gervinho after that.
Ljajic can also play striker aswell as RM/CAM

      • WC says:

Yes because Park, Walcott and Gerv have such prolific striking records. Poldi is as yet unproven in our league. I don’t tihnk he will have much trouble adapting but we’re just making assumptions right now.

At 20 how much do you really expect from Ljajic? Nobody is calling him world class at his age like they were calling Cesc. At best he might be above average but even that will take time to develop so why are we constantly getting players in transition? This is why we don’t win anything because we have more player who are trying to learn on the job than those who know what to do

        • David says:

They have better strike records than Chamkah, bam argument over.
And your missing the point you absolute numpty. Why can’t we have Ljajic, Kagawa and Poldi? That’s still only about £20 million pound. We can get that from selling Vela, Arshavin, Bentdner. Then use the money already available for defensive cover. M’vila/yang mbiwa.
          Szczesny
          Sagna Kosc Vermaelen Gibbs
          Arteta m’vila
          Walcott Kagawa Podolski
          RVP

Martinez Santos Yang mbiwa Song Rosicky Gervinho Ljajic.

Don’t even bother telling me that team couldn’t win things, with
Wilshere and Diaby coming back, Ox/Coquelin/Ramsey still learning their trade.

what we need gooners is great player,AW go and get Falcao and hunteller the drought of trophy will end soon

  • Kieran says:

Unless we are going to play a 4-4-2 there seems no point in keeping Chamakh. Chamakh actually looked good when we flooded forward at times. Otherwise he looked lost in our system. Personally I thought he always put in, he just doesn’t play our language, so to speak.
A straight swap may prove beneficial if wage demands aren’t high. Depends on which of our youngsters are ready for the step up,we don’t want to block their progression.

  • David says:

Hahahahahahaha. If these rumours are true, Wenger will laugh his head off as he hands over Chamakh as quickly as possible.
The guys a pure talent. Unlike Chamkah.
And his attitude? You do realise he reacted badly to getting subbed in the first half, like Kolorov, Barry, Johnson, dzeko, and de Jong have all done this year. The only difference is Mancini didn’t turn around and deck them.
This is a no brainier. Go sit in the corner and twiddle your thumbs instead of writing this malarkey.

  • gooner says:

I think we should…If Chamakh isn’t good enough then what’s the point in keeping him? We might as well take a chance with Ljajic, unless we can sell Chamakh for a decent sum upward of 5m.

  • Akokat says:

U cnt judge ur buk by its cova chamak was a beta playa wen he came arshaven was also bt wat hapend ask wenger i tink i dnt suport d swap deel

  • Ray says:

Chamakh is the worse Arsenal CF since Chapman. This would be a great deal. But why would Florentina want him?

  • paul says:

unfortunately two wrongs dont make a right. What would arsenal gain? another squad member with no experience?
its important to have squad members like yossie and henry (for his short time) who can inspire and influence. The younger players like ryo ramsey et al are best sent on loan to get experience so unless he is exceptional the deal wont be worth it.

    • David says:

Were talking about Chamakh not Yossi. Which would you rather Chamakh or Ljajic. There’s a reason man utd try to sign Ljajic. He is, at 20 a better player than Chamakh has been for us.

      • WC says:

Really? Just like Bebe right you muppet?

Everyone Mancs get aren’t as good as you have been led to believe, they go through so much garbage – Bebe, Djemba-Djemba, Fabio 1 and 2, Anderson – before they find the right players.

There’s nothig of note on Ljajic’s CV that even remotely merits him as a better player than Chamakh. I don’t know if he is or not since I rarely watch Fiorentina anymore but seeing as Ljajic had to play second fiddle to Montolivo shows that he couldn’t even best a slightly above average player. He scored one goal this season and 3 last season – hardly the stuff of magic.

he’s not thatgreat of a central mid, we already have so many wide men, let’s add another who has potential instead of one that already knows the business – great job at keeping the team in transition.

  • Jonathan says:

Arsene wenger should accept the swap because he a very good player that need not to be avoided even if he is temperimental, there is a way u hold on to such players for-instance the likes of Balloteli and joe Barton they all quick tempered players but yet thier clubs still admit or tolerate them. so wenger should make a haste to accept the swap deal done before he slips out of arsenal.
