Why Wenger should break the bank to land this midfield ace

Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Arsenal are reportedly interested in Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.

The Frenchman could have been on his way to Arsenal last summer, with Arsene Wenger showing interest in the player, but Rennes convinced him to stay for one more year with the promise that he could leave the following summer, providing of course a reasonable offer was made for his services.

The Ligue 1 club intend to fulfil their end of the bargain, but are supposedly asking for at least £17 million for the ‘next Claude Makelele’.

Wenger said he intends to fill the holding midfield role, as it is one of his priorities this coming summer. But for him to land M’Vila he may have to break his transfer record, which still stands at £15 million for Andrey Arshavin back in 2009.

M’Villa could join us, as he recently declared some form of interest by saying playing under a French coach would be best for his development:

‘Inter, Arsenal, Real. These are great clubs.

‘If the coach calls you and tells you he wants you to make you play, especially a French coach, it changes everything.

‘The important thing for me is getting playing time for the France team.’

It seems he wants to play for us and he certainly has the quality to do so. But his asking price will more than likely increase with the likes of Inter and Real interested in him. But how far could they really go is yet to be seen. Even the player himself knows that. He is great value for money and a top class player who can and will achieve great things in years to come.

So, do we need him? I think so.

Francis Coquelin, Alex Song, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere are all brilliant players, but adding M’Vila to the mix would most definitely bring about great competition for places and keep the current crop of midfielders on their toes.

In my opinion, Wenger should break the bank for him, but only if the amount remains reasonable. If not we can look elsewhere.

But when you look at it from a competitive point of view, those who have broken the bank to buy players, who are worthy of their price-tag, have gone on to enjoy success as seasons have past. So I say why not. Let’s add some more depth and quality to what is an already gifted squad.

What do you guys reckon – Should we break our club transfer record to sign M’Vila this summer?

another meaningless transfer fantasy that will never happen. do you really see wenger paying 15 millions for a player we don’t need? have you really seen him play? coquelin is more mobile than than m’vila. i have no doubt he will develop but i don’t see him coming to arsenal for a big fee. unless he has a cheap get out clause in his contract. 15 millions?
btw, why don’t you fantasise about montolivo, a mature skillful international with bag of experience and we can get him for free or small fee. cause expensive kids wouldn’t come to arsenal we already have too many of them here.

He will definitely be a starter, arsenal have too much overrated players, look how slow the current midfield is, lets think football and stop placing some of these current arsenal players where they will never reach. spend some fucking money Wegner and stop fighting for fourth.

M’Vila has scored 2 league goals in 102 league appearances. Jan Vertonghen has scored 25 goals in 160 league appearances. While M’Vila has a good engine, Vertonghen has great speed on the breakaway, a great left foot and finds time on the ball. Mvila is a busy good player but Primark compared to the Harrods of Vertonghen. That’s why Ajax are a really good team and Rennes nothing much. If we want a new Viera/Petit we need Song?Vertonghen. Song and M’vila could not play together, they are the same kind of player except M’Vila can’t score.

Buy Vertonghen, he’ll be half the price and can also play defensive midfielder.

Everyone has for some reason become Vertonghen obsessed but the truth is that the guy is an average defender, great technique for a centre back- but too similar to Vermaelen and Koscielny in that he will back off from attackers on occasions when a challenge could be made. What we need as a centre back with the physical presence of an Adams, Keown or Campbell – who is there to defend and will dominate centre forwards.

none of you know what your talking about. vertonghen can do a job in midfield but like vermaelen is an out and out defender. m’villa has everything you want from a midfielder. the french team is built round him. my idea would to be buy both vertonghen as one of the first choice centre halfs and m’villa to partner song and give wilshire the platform to become the player we all think he is. perfect midfield great depth at the back. good cover for the main man up front and we are laughing.

    1. Couelin is one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen in the holding role.
    2. Frimps is a warrior
    3. Song is a genius.
    4. We only really have Tomas to play in the hole.
As good as he is I don’t think mwila is the transfer we need. I don’t think we need many players at all to e honest, if we get podolski, verthongen and hoilett I’m happy
