Arsenal v Manchester City – Match preview

Arsenal take on Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on tomorrow in a pivotal clash for both teams, both for very different reasons though.

By the time the game kicks off, Arsenal may find themselves in fourth place, three points behind Tottenham, while Manchester City could find themselves eight points behind Manchester United, meaning a loss for City would more or less end their title hopes.

The game would mark the return of Ex-Gunners Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy to the Emirates since their summer moves to the blue half of Manchester. Due to the contrasting ways in which they moved to City you would expect Nasri to get a hostile reception from the Emirates faithful, while Clichy, being the last of the ‘Invincibles’ to leave Arsenal and overall, in my opinion, loved the club, I expect he would get a round of applause from the crowd.

Arsene Wenger has been talking about the struggles the team had at the start of the season and how the senior players have played a big part in pulling the team up to 3rd place.

The Frenchman said:

‘I must say Robin van Persie has done an outstanding job of leading the team, as have many players – people like Vermaelen, Arteta, Song, Sagna – I don’t want to leave people out but the senior players have played a big part in setting the tone in the squad.’

After having his obsession with project youth in the past, it is good to see that Wenger has realized what experienced players like Mikel Arteta can add to the squad.

Team news:

it seems we have not lost anyone from the QPR game and we will welcome Abou Diaby back into the squad, but Jack Wilshere, who is back training with the ball, is still three weeks away.

Likely line-up:

Szczesney

Sagna          Koscielny          Vermaelen          Gibbs

Walcott          Arteta           Song          Beanyoun

Rosicky

Van Persie

I would give Yossi Benayoun a start in the game. As we saw against Tottenham, he was immense. He is a hard working player, he may not be the most glamorous, but in the big games you need players like him who can do the dirty work.

We all know about the fire power Manchester City possess, so lets hope Thomas Vermaelen gets his act sorted out and does not get embarrassed by Mario Balotelli or Sergio Aguero.

The whole team have got to be sharp and on their toes if we are to stand any chance of bagging all the points.
