Ray Parlour is excited about seeing FC Koln striker Lukas Podolski join the Gunners next season, according to the Daily Star Sunday.
As you’ve probably heard, about a thousand times, reports suggest Arsenal have already sealed the services of the German international on a four-year deal worth £120,000-a-week for approximately £11 million. And Parlour, who played for Arsenal for 14 years, believes it’s a deal which will be well worth it.
The 39-year-old TV and radio pundit said:
‘Arsene Wenger is desperate to win some silverware after a barren but unlucky few years and if he can get Podolski, which looks likely, it will be a great signing.
‘He is still young and can learn from Wenger and the players around him but he has international class and I think Van Persie’s game will benefit as a result.
‘To some extent Van Persie needs to have the pressure of being the main man who gets all the goals taken from him. Podolski will be eager to do that.’
He finished off by saying:
‘I only wish Wenger had managed to get him in the January transfer window.’
I myself would have loved to seen him join in January, but it’s understandable why he rejected our approach.
I have been a keen admirer of Podolski for quite sometime now, and I’m glad to hear that we have been linked with him over the past few months.
Hopefully this deal will transpire (if it hasn’t be done already and the club are just keeping it under wraps). He will definitely fit into our side well and will contribute and help Robin van Persie (providing he stays) with the goals.
He will be, as Ray suggested, a great signing for the club.
