On-loan Fulham star Pavel Pogrebnyak has criticised Arsenal’s decision to go for Lukas Podolski this summer, as he believes international team-mate Andrey Arshavin is no way inferior to the German:
‘Arshavin is a high-class player and in no way inferior to Podolski.’
I have to say, I did laugh when I read his comments.
There is no doubt Arshavin has the ability, but he’s simply too inconsistent for Arsenal.
Credit to Pogrebnyak for defending his friend and fellow Russian, but there is a huge difference between the Andrey and the German international.
Looking at the stats may prove difficult as there is a huge difference between the Bundesliga and the Premier League. But if we just look at the time the players have been at their respective clubs then the stats will show that Arshavin has played more games, 132 in total to precise, to Podolski’s 89 for FC Koln. However, Arshavin has netted 29, while Podolski has netted 33. The German clearly has a better ratio than our Russian star.
With news yesterday that FC Koln have asked Arsenal to delay the confirmation of his signing, it appears Podolski is going to be joining the Gunners sooner rather than later. So this could potentially signal the end of Arshavin at The Emirates.

has the club indicated there is a connection between the two? why is the coming of th Pod being linked to the departure of andrey?
i asks because too often the club has been said to buy this player or that and that wopuld signal the end of so and so’s life there? what if asharvs, like rosicky picks up his game during the loan spell? too often there is also accusations of lack of strentgh in depth, so why, why?
Because vastly experienced international players like Podolski and Arshavin don’t settle for being on the bench for too long; unless, perhaps, they are guaranteed to win a title at the end of the season, and no matter how well arsenal has been playing recently, nobody would say we are guaranteed anything next season, even with the combined efforts of podolski and an in-form arshavin.
Whoever is truly better, I would hope and expect Podolski to play like he’s better. Arshavin could barely have played much worse since his first half-season.
one is probably not better than the other, but the facts are podolski is younger fitter slimmer and more consistent and has more international appearances, especially at the highest level – world cup. he will play left wing right wing centre forward and even in the hole. arshavin so obvioulsy prefers to play in the hole, but in the epl that is not possible for someone so unfit and not prepared to track back. something by the way that podolski does and does very well. if we get the anticipated £8m for arshavin plus the anticipated £5m for vela and pay £11.5m for podolski and hoilett combined then we have got a very good deal. podolski, walcott, gervinho, the ox, hoilett and ryo competing for the wide forward positions alongside rvp, what a dream team. we will still have money left over plus the funds from selling chamakh and bendtner to bring another striker to add to rvp and park, how about huntelaar? or giroud? or yilmaz? or even berbatov?
Get real Berbatov is crap we’re better of buying Dzeko especially if we do a 4-4-2
let assume arshavin was not on loan and he came in as sub agains milan
that idea circulated in my mind for several days after the game
@atid,
Who is “hoilett”?
Plays for Blackburn 21years old Canadian winger, will be a top player in the future.
It is irrelevant for now if podolski has been signed let him join the club, he is welcomed.
arshavin is shit,15million for what 4 or 5 good games.lazy/fat/gave away the ball and 90% didnt do fuck all.
arshavin and podolski are different players arshavin is an attacking midfield who can play on wings wheareas podolski is an striker i don’t think he is being bought to replace arshavin the replacement for ashavin are already in the club : ox and miyachi
Please we do not mind pod coming Arshavin must go,he is very lazy and sluggish.
Arshavin is a striker as is gervino & walcott was brought being a front man but Henry was a winger turn striker I’d like us to go back to 442 & play 451 when its a harder game RVP can’t be the only main man or maybe wenger knows he’s leaving & is replacing he early ?
